RETWEET‼️In 1955 the mother of Emmett Till made the choice to have an open casket after her sons brutal murder. She said “the people should see what I have seen” I’ve made that choice for Dante 💔 @endqiny citylimits.org/2022/05/19/opi… 🧵
What has changed? Acknowledge that racism in still an issue, it exists all around us. It’s sometimes hidden in shadows, behind smiles, behind fake actions behind court benches and even behind badges. In 1871 Congress passed the KKK act, allowing people to sue government officials
Who violated their civil rights after black propel were freed from slavery because many of those officials were actually KKK members. In 1967 the Supreme Court (Pierson v Ray) gutted that right by creating qualified immunity and in 1982 further gutted it (Harlow v Fitzgerald) by

NEW: The nation’s top federal prosecutors have become more white under President Donald Trump than under his three predecessors, the @AP found in an analysis of demographic data that goes back to the Clinton admin. (from @JZBleiberg, @JimMustian and me) bit.ly/34wI6w2
Our findings reveal a persistent lack of diversity in the ranks of U.S. attorneys has reached a nadir in the Trump administration. White men lead 79 of the 93 U.S. attorney’s offices in a country where they make up less than a third of the population. bit.ly/34wI6w2
Nine current U.S. attorneys are women. Just two are Black, and two are Latinx. A few are Asian. That means Trump has left white men overwhelmingly in charge at a time of national demonstrations over racial inequality and the fairness of the criminal justice system.

People love evidence. If there’s no evidence then they don’t believe you. First of all, I have witnesses to his abuse & they’ve known him longer than I but I do have a few recordings that fuck me up every time I listen to them but let’s do this #RamseyOrta #DomesticViolence
The one time I kept asking him to stop yelling at me and calling me a bitch and he just kept defending it saying it’s just “his language”. You can also hear his deafening silence when I tell him I’m tired of wondering what he’s going to think of to do to me next
Remember that time we got into an arguement where I confronted him about kidnapping my son and giving my address to people who wanted to harm me. This is part 1 of that conversation.

The recent #GeorgeFloydMurder in Mnpls, MN has galvanized the world to protest in support of the #BlackLivesMatter movement.

Cause of death: "asphyxiation from sustained pressure" when his neck and back were compressed by Minneapolis police officers”

cnn.com/2020/06/01/us/…
It didn’t have to take a second autopsy to confirm what the entire world saw on that video. A video I, and many Black parents, still can’t bear to watch.

But the fact that a second autopsy was performed at the request of Mr. Floyd’s family is pertinent to this discussion.

I'm tellin' you man, black folks, black Muslims, Arabs, Desis, Mexicans, etc., are out in the streets dancing to a tune so loud, they don't even know what key it's in. Because of this, many are unwilling and unable to acknowledge the main reason why
the death of #GeorgeFloyd has gone global, has gone viral, is because Chuck authorized it to go viral. The liberal wing of Chuck has authorized outrage over the death of a black man even though we've been dying at the hands of white cops and black hoodlums for decades!
The question I have is why did not white liberals authorize riots and protests when they killed #CliffordGlover, #ClaudeReese, #RandyEvans, #YvonneSmallwood, #AmadouDiallo, #SeanBell, #OscarGrant, #TrayvonMartin, #JordanDavis, #JonathanFerrell, #AiyanaJones,

Both #EricGarner and #GeorgeFloyd died from the use of approved neck/carotid restraints.

Would you consider death from being restrained a never event as defined by @CMSGov?

Should deadly force be an option if your intent is to restrain? Image
“Never events,” like surgery on the wrong body part or mismatched blood transfusion, cause serious injury or death to beneficiaries,” -CMS

Neck restraints and carotid restraints have caused the deaths of unarmed Black men.

Where’s the oversight?

I was asked to write this and I was emotional and angry. Tired, really. But I wanted to share my thought process when writing these 750+ words about the proximity of premature death/racism in Dallas and in this country. THREAD. dmagazine.com/frontburner/20…
I’m an artist & MC. I always think about ideas in song lyrics. No other song title conveys proximity to premature death better than 2Pac’s “Death Around The Corner”(especially since his best work, ME AGAINST THE WORLD, released when he was in prison):
I decided to start with Tupac’s words because, in his lyrics, he located how CLOSE death was in his lived experience. Racism has a way of making that easy for you. He understood a radical political framework, predicted his premature death in this country and was killed at 25.

On #restraints.

If you’ve ever tried to order restraints on a combative or agitated patient in the hospital, you’d be met with multiple orders to sign, calls to house supervisors to get approval, maybe even hunting for keys to get to them.
And these are wrist restraints and mittens.

Why?

Because they pose a risk to patient safety.

crisisprevention.com/CPI/media/Medi…
So we have oversight by the Joint Commission and strict guidelines on how we use restraints to physically restrain patients. For their safety and the safety of our staff.

On May 25, #GeorgeFloyd, a 46-year-old Black man, was murdered by Derek Chauvin, a white Minneapolis police officer. Chauvin kneeled on Floyd’s neck for seven minutes, suffocating him as Floyd pleaded repeatedly that he couldn’t breathe. Justice has not yet been achieved.
We have a national crisis of white supremacist violence against Black people in the USA. In the past decade alone, we witnessed the deaths of thousands of Black people at the hands of police. #BreonnaTaylor #EricGarner #SandraBland #TamirRice are just some of those we’ve lost.
At Indivisible, we believe Black Lives Matter without qualifications, asterisks, or add-ons. We also believe in the right for communities to protest and protect themselves against state-sanctioned violence. Period.
