1. In #Eurotragedy Ashoka Mody (Princeton) racconta la storia europea dalle origini ad oggi. Establishment europeo ne esce a pezzi, istituzioni EU non hanno mai avuto niente a che fare con la democrazia. EU nasce come progetto elitario-tecnocratico a trazione francese.
2. Tuttavia, trattato di Roma fu un successo per libero scambio e rafforzare la pace attraverso una depoliticizzazione delle dispute. Le cose iniziano a cambiare a fine anni sessanta quando economia decelera.
3. Nasce così il Werner Committee nel 1970 dove affiora l’idea di una Unione monetaria (proposta francese) per allineare valute ed evitare svalutazioni competitive. Per i francesi è anche una formula per tenere legati politicamente i tedeschi al progetto europeo.
