Exactly 7 years ago, I spent #StrokeAwarenessDay undergoing emergency #thrombectomy for #basilar artery occlusion. #BAO

Today, I'm still in awe and celebrating how #modern #medicine saved me from locked-in syndrome and enabled me to live a normal life, against all odds.

1/ 🧵
2/ So far, I have avoided sharing this information as part of my professional life, fearing it would somehow disqualify me as a credible clinician-scientist. Finally, I realize that the experience only strengthened my resolve to give future patients the second chance I was given.
3/ What happened in brief:

I was a healthy, 25yo medical student, all excited to have finished the first 10K run of my life not even 5 hours before my family reacted #FAST and called 911.

1st #Fun fact: Interventional treatment of AIS dates all the way back to 1950s‼️
Sussman & Fitch reported 3 cases of IA infusion of fibrinolytics
Didn’t work 😫. Probably because they were performed in a non-hyperacute fashion
But this laid the foundation for years of refinement Image

If the connotation of risk is an intertwined concept and is difficult to quantify, how does a Risk Officer look at it?
Is there any way other than using copula models to determine systemic risk with long tails or a black swan event?
@CQFInstitute @GARP_Risk @SOActuaries
I guess we are worried about Market and Credit Risks or other interrelated financial risks which can create conjoint loss given events.
Any #Gaussian distribution model will enable you to model and predict potential Operational, Liquidity and Balance sheet AL - (Asset - liability) Mismatch, Market and Credit drove losses under normal market conditions.

I've written on Horizon Discovery #HZD before. I think this company may soon turn the corner into real operating leverage, then profitability.

Shares are dragging along the bottom and it's somewhere between 3-4x sales. If I'm right, this could be very cheap later on.

Thread:
Briefly the story so far.

#HZD is a life sciences company. Here is how they describe themselves:

"Global leader in the application of gene editing and gene modulation technologies"

These things sell expensive and they rebuffed a bid from Abcam in 2018.

Woodford had a stake in #HZD.

He's now gone. His holding - and more - was picked up by Valueact, who just got Merlin Ent's in the UK sold into the Lego family.

Valueact have repeatedly raised their holding, so it's not just me that sees something here.
