1/ "Now concerning things sacrificed to idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge makes arrogant, but love edifies." 1 Cor 8:1

The context of this passage is in conscience pertaining to Christian liberty, in this case, meat being sacrifices to idols.
2/ Paul shares two points that wound when they are separated regarding conscience and exercising liberty.

"Knowledge makes arrogant"

"but love edifies"

"γνῶσις" (knowledge) in this instance is "experiential knowledge". It is knowledge gained from first hand experience.
3/ In other words it is knowledge gained from experiences you have encountered. This knowledge can be helpful in keeping us from making horrendous decisions that reaped terrible consequences.

This could also be a knowledge gleaned from rigorous study of Scripture or field...

1/ "He has told you, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of you
But to do justice, to love kindness, And to walk humbly with your God." Micah 6:8
2/ This verse has become one of the most maligned verses in Scripture over the last decade, comparable to "Do not judge." (Matthew 7:1).

In Micah 6:6-7, Micah is showing us that the people of the southern kingdom have outwardly worshipped God, but inwardly they were...
3/...spiritually dead. Micah is asking rhetorical questions in v6-7. God had been faithful to the Jewish people since he made His covenant with Abraham and in return His people made sacrifices for their sin, but their hearts were not contrite. They loved their sin and...

1/ "For this reason God will send upon them a deluding influence so that they will believe what is false, in order that they all may be judged who did not believe the truth, but took pleasure in wickedness." 2 Thessalonians 2:11-12
2/ The context is apostasy. Paul is referring to a great apostasy that will make way for the Antichrist leading up to verses 11-12.

As you look at verse 6 we see that God is the one restraining Satan and this great apostasy from taking place until the time He appoints.
3/ This should show you God's sovereignty. That he restrains Satan and his Antichrist. If it were not for His restraining grace man would be handed over to their depravity and wipe everyone out of existence. If Satan were not restrained he would wreak havoc...

1/ When an Jude says that apostates reject authority ἀθετέω κυριότης (atheteo kuriotes) he shows their utter disdain for the authority of Scripture.

"atheteo" combines "a" meaning "without" and "theteo" derives from "thithemi" which means "to put/to place" which...
2/...denotes setting something in place, like a standard or law.

Kuriotis means "dominion" which is where 'Kurios" is derived which means "Lord" when referring to Christ. Together Atheteo kuriotes denotes a rejection of those laws/standards that God has placed over us.
3/ Look no further than Scripture as the authority over believers. To go outside of any of the boundaries and precepts that God's word has set is to "reject authority".

Rejecting authority comes naturally to an apostate because it is in fact God's law that entices them to rebel.

1/ "Every person is to be in subjection to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God."

Jude felt the necessity (heavy burden) and so do I.
2/ The context for Romans 13 is set in light of Romans 12 with the cornerstone verse of Romans 12 being verse 2. "And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good...
3/...and acceptable and perfect." I love the word for "world" (aion). It means "age" so within in the context Paul is telling Christians to not conform to this present age. Built on top of this command is Christian living. Verses 9-21 demonstrate how a Christian is to live.

1/ "Only conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or remain absent, I will hear of you that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel;...
2/"...in no way alarmed by your opponents—which is a sign of destruction for them, but of salvation for you, and that too, from God." Philippians 1:27-28

I want to focus on v28. In context Paul is encouraging the brethren to live in a manner that pleases God.
3/ In verses 29-30 Paul tells the brethren that the price for living a Christ-like life will bring about suffering just as Paul experienced for Christ's sake. Even Christ said:

"If the world hates you, know that it hated Me before it hated you." John 15:18

1/ "It came about after these events that his master's wife looked with desire at Joseph, and she said, "Lie with me." Genesis 39:7
2/ In context, right after Joseph was promoted over the entire household of Potiphar, his wife took notice of Joseph's beauty.

The Hebrew word used for "looked with desire" is "nasa". It means, "to lift up the eyes on".
3/ You can render this in the context as "she cast her eyes upon Joseph in desire."

Joseph was unknown to her until he was raised to a prominent position. With Joseph as the chief steward of Potiphar's home his wife would interact with him.

I want to point something out here...

1/ "My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand." John 10:27-28
2/ When Christ said His "sheep hear his voice" He did not mean a literal voice speaking to them. A true believer reads God's word and believes it as truth because the Holy Spirit resides in them. They follow what Scripture says because they know it to be true.
3/ So we hear Christ's voice through reading Scripture and the truth resonates in us to obey. We stop repaying evil for evil, or living sexually immoral lives, or reveling in drunkenness, or lying to others.

Christ says, "I know (ginosko) them."

"(Love) does not take into account a wrong suffered." 1 Corinthians 13:5c

1/
2/ Charitable, unconditional love which is commanded by God for the believer to exemplify "does not take into account a wrong suffered (οὐ λογίζομαι - ou logizomai). "ou" is a negative that is an absolute categorical rejection of a thing.
3/ "logizomai" is a derivative of the word logos which is where we get our english word "logic". The implication of logos is that is that there is a "reckoning of thoughts" that ultimately become words. Within the context of the verse it is a "reckoning of wrongs (kakos).

1/ I have been studying the Greek word αἵρεσις (hairesis - heresies) from 2 Peter 2:1 as I prepare a lesson for Sunday. It's a very interesting word because in the ancient secular context it's used differently than the NT context, though the different uses are similar
2/The way with which it is chiefly used in secular context is "to take/to capture/to seize". The context with which it is used is militarily by force. i.e. to capture a city. The implication is that you are exerting your own will upon another.

One secular example is Herdotus:
3/

"After Babylon had been taken (αἵρεσιν), the march of Dareios himself against the Scythians took place:" The Histories 4:1

It is the context that determines the usage of the word, and here, Herodotus is using it in a manner where Dareios has conquered/seized Babylon.

1/ "Jesus said to him (Apostle Thomas), 'I am the way, and the truth, and the life; No one comes to the Father but through Me." John 14:6
2/ The context in verses 1-4 is Christ telling the disciples about him preparing to leave (his upcoming death), preparing a place for them in heaven, and His eventual return. Then Christ inserts in v4 "And you know the way that I am going?"
3/ This prompted Thomas to ask in v5 "...we do not know where you are going, how do we know the way?" And this brings us to the absolute and exclusive statement in v6 that Jesus is the only way for unbelieving man to get to heaven. There are no other ways.

1/ “You did not choose Me but I chose you, and appointed you that you would go and bear fruit, and that your fruit would remain, so that whatever you ask of the Father in My name He may give to you.” John 15:16
2/ This is one of the clearest examples of predestination in scripture. “Not” is “ou”
in Grk which is a negative that denies something absolutely/categorically.
When Christ says, “You did NOT choose Me” He is saying that the apostles
absolutely had nothing to do w/ choosing Him.
3/ The implication to the apostles & to every regenerate Christian is that we
contributed nothing to our salvation. This is the same today for each believer
that is redeemed. Mankind in its sinful disposition would always choose self before God because it's in our nature to do so
