The first thing to consider when choosing a toaster is the number of channels. Dual-channel toasters are most common, but quadruple-channel or even larger models are available. The more channels, the more options for your sound, but also the more daunting the possibilities.

When dialing in your toaster, crank the heat to get those rich, warm, saturated tones that are great for rock and metal. Otherwise, dial it back for a more subtle, sophisticated tone. If you hear any crackling or uneven distortion, it might be time to switch heating rods! 3/6
