1 - was likely this was a foreign op as opposed to a domestic operation from the start, to employ stolen/hacked voter registration lists would lead to prosecution for a US domestic actor, 2 - Iran is both aggressive & sloppy, attempt things other states will not, and get caught
3 - cyber signatures for the webmail servers traced back to Saudi, an adversary of Iran, classic technique to tie up two enemies with one cyber move, Russia does this too, but, unlikely they'd move this way.

Some notes on Russia influence - Election 2020 - The Kremlin’s influence is still there, but they are being drown out by U.S. domestic chaos & homemade disinformation. 2 things they can still do: hacking and subversion.
For China - Why worry about election 2020 when you can have the world? A divided America makes for a strong China. Have no political bridge into america, advancing aggressively, globally & will be big info war challenge for 2021 & beyond

As discussed in article, 4 narratives to Kremlin influence during this phase- 1. Elevate preferred candidate 2. Denigrate viable challengers to Russia & preferred candidate 3. Split the opposition pitting populists vs establishment 4. Support fringe candidates to suppress turnout
With that formula in mind, Kremlin strategy is straightforward. Elevate a Trump, Attack Biden and now Bloomberg, Elevate Sanders with narrative of DNC rigging it (Same plan, different election)
