A while ago, I started to notice that I felt defensive when people challenged the idea/practice of psychological #formulation. I think because I see the benefits, believe in the underpinning values + probably because it's such a core part of my professional identity. And yet.....
....I reflected that if I stoically defended a process, rather than being open to its refinement, evolution and adaptation, in the face of valuable feedback (especially from those who use services) then I would be perpetuating the harms of MH services past and present....
....I would be saying 'look, I am doing this for the right reasons and I believe it's helpful' as so many purveyors of 'treatment' have done, while inflicting harm. If we are to be true to our values, we have got to be listen + change; no process can be immune from that........
