Arrivé au Mozambique, Freddy a fait demi-tour et regagné en puissance, "porté" par les eaux chaudes de l’océan.

À moins de 50 km de Madagascar, #Freddy a fait un nouveau demi-tour, touchant une nouvelle fois le Mozambique puis le Malawi.
Il est d'une longévité record (38 jours), mais pas forcément record en se restreignant aux jours classés "tempête tropicale" a minima.

The high intensity ensemble model forecasts for #CycloneFreddy #Freddy have always indicated the possibility of it turning and exiting before landfall.

However a very large cyclone sitting off the coast can still produce very large quantities of rain.
But the catastrophic rainfalls indicated yesterday 300-500mms of rain deep inland may not now eventuate.

Freddy remains a massive storm taking up nearly the entire Mozambique Channel - outer bands are already over the African coast.

The last two days of development. 7-8 March.
And 8-9 March. Freddy is strengthening rapidly on approach to the mainland - and remains embedded within and fueled by an AR coming in from the North East.
Here's an earlier vioew from theis morning while the spinning up cyclone - now commencing its second pass across the Mozambique Channel started intensifying rapidly, very quickly developing a clear eye.

3. #Freddy exits Madagascar and makes its way into the Mozambique Channel and begins to reform. It appears to be being supported in this by an atmosphericn river which may originate in South America. Surface flows of PWAT are in opposite direction.

Having made landfall on Tuesday night over the east coast of Madagascar, Freddy is forecast to track generally west southwestward as it is ripped apart by the mountainous eastern region of Madagascar.
FREDDY represents a significant flood risk for Madagascar as soils are already saturated in central parts of the island from the impact of Cyclone Cheneso, which stalled off the west coast of the island and brought torrential rains in late January
