As Egypt hosts #COP27 let’s not forget the estimated 60,000 political prisoners held there.

We join the calls to release Alaa Abd El Fattah who is on hunger strike right now. #FreeAlaa

We also want to shine a light on some of those in prison here in the UK in this thread:🧵 Image
While the eyes of the world are on #cop27egypt it's crucial to pressure their Government on their human rights record and for political prisoners release.

Reports of human rights abuses range from harassing activists & journalists to torturing prisoners:

But many of the delegations arriving in Sharm el-Sheikh today are also increasing repression of protest. Often in direct response to nonviolent climate movements.

Some speaking at #COP27 this week, are silencing calls for #ClimateAction at home.

they all said ‘NO!’

Pursuant to Rule 53 of our Rules of Procedure, I seize the opportunity to respond to the State of the Nation Address delivered by the President on June 4. #SOTN2021 #AccountabilityAndService
While the Article 101 of the Constitution doesn't prescribe the content of the Address, it is expected that President would use it as a performance report card of what has been undertaken by government since the last address. Unfortunately, this has never been the case. #SOTN2021
Specifically Objective I(ii) requires the President to report at least once a year the extent of realization of the policy objectives and principles. The provision does not deter the State of the Nation Address from being used as the reporting mechanism. #AccountabilityAndService

We welcome the decision of the Delhi Sessions Court to grant the release warrant for Devangana, Natasha and Asif. This comes two days after they were granted bail by the Delhi High Court. We hope to see them released by today.
2/n We have also seen how the Delhi Police has tried to delay the release of the three student activists by asking for up to 6 days for the verification of sureties and permanent addresses.
3/n The Delhi Police has also filed a Special Leave Petition in the Supreme Court to initiate an “immediate stay” on the order of the Delhi High Court which remains to be heard.

"This is about the 'trial' so-called.
Meanwhile, in prison, the political
prisoner again suffers a regime that is
palpably different-and much 'more
undemocratic-than that the non-political
undertrials suffer. Prisons are supposed
to be governed by manuals of rules; (1/4)
these rules usually differ slightly from state to state but all of them belong to a subterranean world that has not heard of things like justice and fundamental rights. The hallmark of the manuals is a total arbitrariness: rules of discipline, procedures for inquiry and (2/4)
award of punishment are all arbitrary. And thus, without any need to
define new prison rules for political
prisoners, they can be and are being
treated as a different category of prisoners
to whom even the minimum rights available to ordinary undertrials are not
available." (3/4)

(A THREAD)
Reina Mae Nasino and her two companions Ram Carlo Bautista and Alma Moran, were arrested at the office of Bayan-Manila in Tondo during wee hours of November 5, 2019 while they were sleeping.
