For months, I’ve investigated the link between a 43 year-old debt which the UK owes to Iran and Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe’s imprisonment. Here’s a thread about what I’ve learned.
British ministers used to deny the debt was connected to Nazanin’s detention. No longer. Paying Iran now amounts, effectively, to settled government policy
For opponents of ransom payments it’s an uncomfortable truth that Nazanin’s detention as a hostage has ‘coincided’ with the adoption of that policy

In his Soviet apologist piece in the Eton Chronicle, Johnson admits to be escorted by a KGB Minder. A leading Russia expert told me that this means there will be a KGB file on our PM dating from 1980, quite a large file. Johnson excused the 1979 Russian invasion of Afghanistan
Johnson learned Russian & researched his Russian ancestry in the USSR. Lebedev was posted to London in 1987 targeting members of the Conservative Govt & London Journalists like Boris Johnson. Maxwell let his daughter Ghislaine run "parties" for Oxford friends such as Johnson.

Fast forward to 2016, Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe visits her mother in Iran with her 22m old daughter in tow on a 100% family visit.

5 years ago today I was freed from Evin prison in #Iran. @YeganehSalehi and I boarded a plane for a new life we couldn’t imagine. Isolated from most human contact and information for 544 days, I knew almost nothing about efforts to bring me home.
That began to change when we landed in Geneva. Waiting for us on the tarmac was @brett_mcgurk who, over 14 months, secretly negotiated our release. It almost fell through right at the end. He told us “someday I’ll tell you about the last 24 hours.”
I spent much of my time in my first months of freedom piecing together what had happened to me. True to his word, @brett_mcgurk and many other officials provided with me their accounts of working toward my release and the challenges and risks involved.
