#MahatmaGandhi had a complex relationship with Maharashtra, where his mentor Gopal Krishna Gokhale hailed from.

This thread is about #Gandhi and his relationship with #Marathi (and #Maharashtra)

#Maharashtra produced some of his staunchest supporters like Acharya Vinoba Bhave and Sitaram ‘Appasaheb’ Patwardhan, who was referred to as the ‘Konkan Gandhi,’ and his most bitter critics, like Dr #BabasahebAmbedkar and V.D. #Savarkar.
Eventually, a man from #Maharashtra--#NathuramGodse, killed #Gandhi.

With Bapu's birthday today, it is obvious that we are going to remember him ,as the torchbearer of righteousness, truthfulness and as a man who led India from the forefront towards independence.

A thread 🧵🧵
But is that all that we can recollect of him?

There are so many lessons we can learn and imbibe in our corporate setups, from his principles.
Because they are relevant in this modern era.

His very name is a template to many of the lessons he taught to humanity.

This thread is on a little-known attempt by a British police officer to assassinate #MahatmaGandhi at #Pune in 1942 & some previous bids on #Gandhiji's life.

On 30 January 1948, three bullets fired by #NathuramGodse claimed the life of #MahatmaGandhi as he was walking to his prayer meeting at the Birla House in #NewDelhi. However, even before that fateful day, there were multiple attempts to assassinate Gandhi.
In 1897, Gandhi was assaulted by a mob of Europeans in Natal. He was attacked by a group of Pathans in South Africa (February 1908). In 1914, some Muslims were upset that clauses in a bill that formalized the Gandhi-General Smuts agreement had denied polygamy, which amounted to

Just In: PIL moved before #AllahabadHighCourt seeking stay on streaming of the short film 'Why I killed Gandhi'.

It's been alleged that it may disturb the peace and social harmony in Uttar Pradesh amid ongoing Assembly elections.
The petitioners have alleged that the movie which has been released on the OTT platform 'Limelight' has highly objectionable dialogues.
It's been also said that the content of the movie tarnishes #Gandhiji's image.
It is significant to note that against the release of this movie, a writ petition was filed before the Supreme Court which the top court refused to entertain. However, liberty was granted to the petitioners to approach the concerned high court.

A thread on #MahatmaGandhi in context of #KangnaRanaut's statement on Gandhism.
1.Gandhi was against all isms.
2. Nobody can claim to believe in "Gandhism" & NOT be a liberal.
2. Has anyone seen a pix of #Gandhiji ever visiting a temple, derasar, church or mosque?
3.Gandhi was a liberal & a staunch secular. He never built a temple or inaugurated one.He was the first person who denied Govt funding to #Somnath reconstruction to Kanaiyalal Munshi.
4. #Gandhi ji's prayer meetings were always interfaith in nature, including the Ashram prayers.
5. #Gandhiji was not "nationalstic" in the contemporary usage of the term. He NEVER cited or used history to underscore his social or political battles. He believed only fake nationalists use history to score points without considering the political & social context of the era.

THREAD: On the day #Gandhiji was killed, we must remember his life’s lessons but not forget the ideology that took him away from the Independent India that he’d fought for

Remember, many disagreed with Gandhi throughout his life. Only Hindutva’s foot soldiers killed him for it
We mustn’t forget that the conspiracy to kill Gandhi was made because of the terrorists’ hatred for Muslims & in their view Gandhi was a little too pro-Muslim

The message to Indian Muslims was: your allies, even if they’re Gandhiji, will have to risk their lives to support you
Gandhi had, after all, fasted for safety of Muslims & their places of worship in Delhi. His fast had resulted in Sikhs & Hindus taking a pledge for Muslims’ safety

Mentored by “Veer” Savarkar, terrorists wanted to blame Muslims for it.
