I am at the supply committee meeting for the department of Justice at One Government Place.

Enjoy my live tweets related to all of the departments “priorities”. 1/
The department is committed to keeping people of Nova Scotia safe!

Good to know.
The highest priority is the #MCC Commission Report according to Minister Johns.

You’ll note that the report focused on how cover up and bias around gender based violence needs to be addressed.

Let’s hear how they plan to do that 3/

Earlier this year I called on the most protected and powerful in journalism to speak out publicly for us—white men and white women—and most of them ignored me and refused. Yet these are the same ppl who will talk about #GBV on Dec 6 as though this isn’t ongoing in their backyard
These voices are those you see on Tv regularly. Many of those white men denied and discredited our experiences like a certain @CBCNews Parliamentary reporter who said that “the PM gets more hate”. I have yet to see any repudiation by management. JSP doesn’t exist for them

Chinese billionaire Richard Liu agreed to settle a lawsuit filed by a former University of Minnesota student who alleged he raped her in Minneapolis in 2018, attorneys for both sides announced.
A settlement amount was not disclosed.
apnews.com/article/minnes… #GBV
Liu Jingyao alleges the attack happened in 2018 while Richard Liu was in Minneapolis for a weeklong residency in the University of Minnesota’s doctor of business administration China program, geared toward high-level executives in China.
apnews.com/article/minnes…
Chinese feminists touted the settlement as a qualified victory for the country’s beleaguered #MeToo movement. In China, the legal system offers little recourse for female victims, and rape is rarely discussed.

I guess #BhekiCele is pretty pleased to have the pandemic to blame when it comes to accounting for the spike in statistics for #GBV&F. All this demonstrates, however, is that he is devastatingly incompetent.
In spite of legislative reform, the pronouncement of presidential policies, and a commitment (allegedly) to a national strategic plan to address GBV&F, the statistics in SA continue to climb.

Lysistrata, an anti-war comedy by the Greek playwright Aristophanes, talks about a sex strike 💪

And nowadays?

Let's talk about three different sex strikes!

The LAMENTATION🤦🏽‍♂️
United Nations Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, has lamented the rise of #GBV globally as he cried for efforts to protect the health and rights of women and girls:
"Let us act to safeguard sexual and reproductive health care, protect the health and rights of ImageImage
women and girls and end gender-based violence.
The (COVID-19) pandemic has made our jobs much harder but we must prevail. With many countries on lockdown and health systems struggling to cope, sexual and reproductive health services are being sidelined and gender-based violence
is on the rise.
Every year, millions of girls are subjected to practices that harm them physically and emotionally, robbing them of their right to reach their full potential.
We cannot allow the pandemic to reverse progress we have made towards these goals."

While we are on Jada and August...
(A thread)

A man in Calabar, Edet Okon Asim, continuously raped a girl whom he was supposed to be "helping", since her father, his friend, died.

He first started an affair with the girl's mother. And then, with her knowledge, allegedly...
...began raping the girl. This started when the girl was 12, and went on until she was 15. The girl got pregnant a few times and he got her to do abortions by quacks. The last one perforated her womb.

He was arrested and supposed to go on trial but, it has been a year now...
...and nothing has happened. He has been walking around free.

In fact, the governor of Cross River, Ben Ayade has recently appointed him as Special Adviser on Biodiversity.

Ntufam Edet Okon Asim was formerly the Chairman of Calabar Municipality and one time commissioner...
