Received few questions on #MeToo research:

Q: How would you summarise debate of #MeTooIndia & #MenToo movement?

MDO Reply: #MeTooIndia unfortunately ran like a campaign and failed to call out Men who belonged to certain set of ideology

For eg. No one ran concentrated campaigns against rape accused filmmaker Anurag Kashyap or Maharashtra's social justice minister Dhananjay Munde

Thus, MeTooIndia seemed like a motivated campaign targeting to fix certain individuals

#MenToo on other hand is very organic

...and there is no particular handle co-ordinating the same. When misuse of naming shaming Men - without evidence - became rampant, we at MDO started covering certain stories with this hashtag where we wanted society to see the 'Other Side'

*THREAD* (1/n) Often feminists don't agree to the fact that men in India suffer due to gender biased laws- in favor of women. Argument is, there are no statistics which suggest that Indian men suffer. So there is no need for gender neutral laws or a national commission for men.

Gender equality discussions : An unpopular opinion. A lengthy thread but would urge readers to bear with me till the end.
Latest NCRB data - # of men who died by suicide is 2.5 times the # of women. 97,613 men died by suicide in 2019 alone.

While the nation is still busy with #SSR ,above data didn't find a mention in any visual medium. We see tweets by women pleading for help and blaming husbands, most of which are dismissed later as false accusations, but by that point, damage is done.

First suspect in any negative household experience is the male. While misandry catalyzes the suicidal trend further, it doesn't help us achieve a gender neutral society. This trend needs attention and analysis of causes & potential solutions to make society gender neutral
