(1/5) It’s time for my Sunday Spotlight on #PublicHealth! Today, I am highlighting a frank conversation I had with @Medscape and @CDCInjury Director about #naloxone, the #opioid overdose reversal agent: wb.md/2Wspfhp
(2/5) Despite a huge ⬆️in #naloxone prescribing in recent years, far too little naloxone is being dispensed in many areas of the country – often where it is needed the most.
(3/5) One topic discussed was who should be getting #naloxone. People who are at risk for an opioid overdose should carry naloxone. I also encourage family, friends, & loved ones of those who are at risk to #GetNaloxone, because any one of us can save a life!

Just briefed @POTUS on behalf of @SecAzar on one of the most pressing public health challenges of our time - the #OpioidCrisis. Just like the crisis didn’t start overnight, it can’t be solved overnight. But we are starting to see encouraging results from our efforts.
For example: We’ve seen a significant decrease in opioid prescribing, and the number of first time heroin users decreased by more than 60% last year.
We’ve also made tremendous strides to get lifesaving help to those who need it - like the @Surgeon_General’s advisory to #GetNaloxone and embracing medication-assisted treatment (MAT).
