For many #ConstitutionalLaw scholars, last years' #Dobbs decision on #AbortionRights at the #SupremeCourt came as a dismaying shock, because it showed conclusively that #conlaw wasn't a realm of ideologically consistent intellectual foment, but rather, a matter of *politics*. 1/ A kraken strangling a coin-...

Writing for @CreditSlips, the #FinanceLaw scholar #AdamLevitin admits to feeling a bit of schadenfreude in that moment. The "blue collar" law scholars in "grubby" banking and money fields have always treated the conlaw set as "slightly clueless toffs":

On this day 135 years ago, D.C. #GildedAge socialite photographer Marian Hooper "Clover" Adams ended her life. For years, friends would bring bouquets of her favorite white violets to her #RockCreekCemetery memorial on the anniversary. We've taken to keeping up the tradition
A far better memorial to #CloverAdams herself is the writing of her beloved friend, #HenryJames. His Pandora Day, Daisy Miller and Isabel Archer were all sketches of Clover. Augustus Saint-Gaudens' 1891 signature masterpiece here is a monument only to husband Henry Adams' grief
Peek around the back of architect #StanfordWhite's pedestal setting of the sculpture and you'll find Adams' sole concession to conventional sentiment. No opaque transcendentalism here - a straight Victorian expression of love, grief for his wife. You just have to look for it

Ain't no Norman stone in #WoodlandNormanstone neighborhood. What you'll find instead is a rummage bin of salvaged, repurposed bits of #GildedAge D.C. This sandstone doorway here, believe it or not, was Teddy Roosevelt Admin. Secretary of State John Hay's Lafayette Park front door ImageImageImage
These arches were salvaged from 19th cent. historian, Presidential descendent Henry Adams' #GildedAge Lafayette Park home (now site of the @HayAdamsHotel). Samuel Clemens, Henry James, Theodore Roosevelt all walked through this doorway that's now a garage for that beat down SUV ImageImageImage
