Pattern of white supremacist inspired attacks is remarkably similar, but directionally diffferent. Jihadists were top-down driven (Directed, Networked, Inspired) But these domestic attacks are bottom-up (Inspired, now leading to Networked)

Not even one week later, another tragic mass shooting. I am thinking of our fellow Americans in #ElPaso.

The numbers are shocking, but we must also remember that each life lost to gun violence is not just a statistic. Their loved ones will never see them again. And survivors may endure lifetimes of physical and mental trauma.
In the aftermath of the #Gilroy garlic festival shooting, we tracked the various themes and narratives as they spread and morphed on Twitter. As is often the case, people rushing to post mis- and disinformation was not helpful.

@ZellaQuixote Despite lack of information, people tweeted a variety of claims as events unfolded. Some examples:

@ZellaQuixote The discovery of the shooter's apparent Instagram page fueled further speculation. References to "Might is Right" (which does promote Anglo-Saxon supremacy) was used to support claims of a white supremacist motive, while an Iranian flag was presented as evidence to the contrary.
It should not be legal to buy a weapon of war that can shoot 15 people in under a minute.
It wasn't legal to buy such a weapon in California where the #GilroyShooting took place.

Their judgment and impulse control are severely restricted.
