To those spouting at #PWD’s on #ODSP to “get a job”, may I remind you that #ODSP is for ppl who are #DISABLED that either can’t work or can’t work F/T, & even if we attempt to try and find work #ODSP claws back 50% of every $ made above 200$ … 1/6
it is #legislatedpoverty, we only receive 1,169 a month to live on, can you live on that ? I dare you to come up with a budget on that amount rn, guess what, you can’t, no one on #ODSP is living high on the hog I can guarantee you that … 2/6
yes there are #benefits but it’s a #bureaucratic nightmare, everything needs to be approved, forms need to be filled out, these are often #discretionary and the caseworker can deny it if it doesn’t meet a certain #eligibility … 3/6

1) If raising the rates is an interim measure towards a #UBI #GLBI, fine. But #OW and #ODSP are riddled with barriers and were not meant to create a living wage.

What do I mean? Well the #OW Act of 1997 defines ‘assistance’ as “life stabilization assistance and basic financial assistance” - no matter how you look at it, stabilization =/= thriving, living, equitable. It’s an interim fix to a structural failure.

No, the NDP did not, "vote against the disabled". They initially refused to support the Covid-19 spending bill in June, which contained a $600 payment for disabled Canadians. And for good reason.

Which was pretty unfair, and necessary to stop, because LIBERAL MPs like Wayne Easter and Adam Vaughan who told people to apply for CERB whether they knew they qualified or not! Can we say, entrapment? I'm no lawyer but, unfair to say the least. (3/9)
