1/10 A high-level Turkish delegation travelled to #Tripoli yesterday and signed a series of MoUs with the #GNU.
This latest development introduces a new episode to the Libyan crisis that will have repercussions on national, regional, and international levels. 🧵
2/10 The MoUs were kept secret, with only #Turkey & Dabaiba’s inner circle aware of the agreements. Many ministers within the GNU found out last minute without having access to the text itself.
Dabaiba’s foreign allies such as the UAE have also been kept in the dark.
3/10 Dabaiba, like his predecessor Sarraj, signed the agreements out of despair to ensure Turkey’s role as a strategic ally to stay in power.

For him, the deal is essential as he thinks only Turkish can help him contain and manage his alliance of armed groups in Tripoli.

Richard (Dick) Estes, Guru of #Gnu, authority on antelopes, a profoundly smart, witty, observant, kind man has passed. He authored the classic Behavior Guide to African Mammals & other guides, mentored many, liberally shared ideas & was tireless in love & awe of African wildlife. https://www.nwf.org/Magazines/National-Wildlife/2005/The-Gur
We met in 2004 at a mini antelope symposium & he became like a grandad to me. We used to talk about mimicry & polyandry, Grumeti colobus, & conservation. He agreed w/ Mark Dowie that if we want to safeguard biodiversity, the dumbest thing we can do is displace Indigenous people.
In 2009, he assisted w/ giant sable operation in Cangandala NP darting & translocating 9 giant sable cows & 1 bull into a 4 sq km enclosure inside the park—he said it made an impression on Angola gov & public. In 2011 he went to see the captive breeding. nationalgeographic.com/animals/articl…

Oh dear

Buckle up

"Britain is in a lonely place right now. It resembles the scene of a bad traffic accident where shocked passers-by look away with pity and horror in their eyes. Alarmed by what they see, governments around the world practise their own form of social distancing."
"Once again, Britain is the sick man of Europe."

It didn't have to be this way...if only...Tory UK Governments had listened to "the people" instead of telling "the people" what they should think...

...and not least, pursuing Brexit based upon a corrupt and illegal mandate!
"The view of Britain as Europe’s “problem child” predates the pandemic but has been greatly reinforced by it."

curl wttr.in

Como ver el pronóstico de lluvias y temperaturas:
curl v2.wttr.in

#gnu #shell #bash #Ubuntu #commandline ImageImage
Se me olvidaba, también podéis cotillear el pronóstico de otras ciudades de todo el mundo, ejemplo:
curl wttr.in/Madrid ImageImage
Continuando con el hilo: Si queréis ver los datos meteorológicos, pero comprimidos en una línea del terminal de #Linux, hay otro programa en los repositorios de #Ubuntu:
sudo apt install ansiweather

Y lo ejecutamos con la siguiente sintaxis:

ansiweather -u metric -l "Madrid" ImageImage

1/4 "Algorithms are opinions embedded in code."

This is a very interesting talk and it reminds me of a topic that I haven't had the opportunity to talk about in a long time. Software freedom. #FLOSS #GNU #Freedom ted.com/talks/cathy_o_…
2/4 It's not only about protecting our data, but we should also care about protecting what's done to our data, and sometimes even how it's done. If you can't have access to the code that is manipulating your data, this is bad and this can be dangerous. Some people think that our
3/4 data should be monetized, in a way that you should be paid somehow if someone is making money out of your data. Well, start paying with freedom by freeing the source code of the algorithms that are manipulating my data. Maybe you're wondering: But Marcel, what could go wrong?

Corbyn has called on other parties to back him in leading a caretaker govt.

"The political obstacles to Corbyn’s proposal are considerable"
Many MPs who might support the idea in theory would not want to install him in No.10 even as a caretaker PM.

Forming a caretaker government is more complicated than just choosing a PM

If opposition parties can agree on a PM, what would need to be agreed before a caretaker government could operate?

A government with ministers

1/10 CHAMISA OFFERS TO HELP MNANGAGWA APOLOGIZE FOR GUKURAHUNDI
@NewZimbabweCom 2 May 2019

It is indeed true, as @nelsonchamisa is reported to have said, that there will never be peace in Zimbabwe unless & until the #gukurahundi issue is resolved!

newzimbabwe.com/chamisa-offers…
2/10 It is imperative to deal with the #gukurahundi issue for Zimbabwe to move on. The question is how to resolve it. Expecting or demanding an apology from Mnangagwa won't resolve #gukurahundi. What's needed and must come first is TRUTH and JUSTICE, then apologies can follow!
3/10 It's a serious matter that, whereas #gukurahundi was waged by the State from 1980 to 1987; and while some baseline information about victims has been documented, there's no official or legal record on what happened in each case, who did what and under what chain of command!
