1. Egyptian author & feminist @monaeltahawy is a booming voice on the continent. Her declaration of faith is "Fuck the Patriarchy." She started conversations around sexual harassment in mosques and her new book The Seven Necessary Sins For Women and Girls will be out this year.
2. For more than 10 years @Doyin_Ogunye has been at the helm of keeping the beaches of Lagos clean. She's rescued sea turtles that were about to be sold & killed & she's created a space for Nigerian children to participate in cleaning the beaches of Lagos.

On this day, in 1961, at the age of 35, Congo's first Prime Minister was assassinated. He became Prime Minister at the age of 34.

Belgian author Ludo de Witte in his book The Assassination of Lumumba said, this crime, qualifies as "the most important assassination of the 20th century". Not only did the assassination of Lumumba lead to 59 years of Congo never experiencing democratic rule, it changed Congo.
