Day 1. Fire was intense. Wind changes meant we had to evacuate. Hoses were lost. A church burnt down. Desperation and destruction 
Day 2. Part 1. The fire grew and grew. We tried to find a strategic location to fight it and protect houses

1) Greek fire brigade vehicles are old (half of them 30 to 40 yo), and get knocked out with the first fires of the season.

3) the union of forest managers used to be 1200 strong, now it's less than 500, last hires of permanent staff were in 2008!
4) fire services are understaffed by about 4,000 fire-fighters!
5) the average age of the fire-fighters is rather old at over 45 yo (wtf!)

6) out of 14 canadair fire-fighting aircrafts, 8 are of the older generation with operational restrictions in ambient temperature.
We asked for trouble and we got it, now we are paying the price for our criminal negligence.

Our government isn't doing anything to help. Greece is burning and all people care about is their vacation at Mykonos or Santorini. +

The fire department doesn't have enough people to help cause the government keeps funding the police force. People are left alone trying to protect their homes. Firefighters are risking their lives to save everything they can, in the middle of a heatwave. +
People need to understand that this country is not an aesthetic, nor a background for.your Mama Mia fantasy. Stop romanticising it and spread the truth.
