A good time to post up this 1840 manuscript page describing a #Gunditjmara village of 20-30 houses, each able to hold up to a dozen people, at newly World Heritage-listed Budj Bim.

Many are still ignorant that such permanent dwellings existed.

Not that there's anything particularly unique/"civilized" about permanent houses. If your food sources are all in one place it makes sense to build something more permanent and so they developed alongside intensive agri-/aqua-culture, but not having them isn't some great lack.
However, traditionally they are seen as a marker of "civilization" so traditionally non-Indigenous Australia has pretended Indigenous Australia didn't have them. 🙄
