#CR17leaks is a test media can’t afford to fail. Those who were fearless in calling out #Zuma and the #Guptas cannot ignore the evidence: Ramaphosa’s team played dirty to win at conference by paying key supporters and journalists cum PR consultants.
The ruling party is so corrupt that this was likely the only way to win. But it’s not the media’s job to justify this - it’s job is to report it.
The forces seeking to promote populism are scary but when editors underestimate the intelligence of readers by presenting justifications, they become vulnerable to populist conspiracy theorists.
