@gavi's new fund for #COVID19 vax was launched yesterday with this $750 mil agreement (for 300 mil doses) with @AstraZeneca (AZ). Some points to consider THREAD: #GVS2020
-despite Gavi claiming that transparency would be a tenet of the new fund, there was no disclosure of any of the agreement terms gavi.org/sites/default/…
-it was a rushed deal to have something to announce @gavi's replenishment - makes one wonder if it was really necessary to give @AstraZeneca $$$ 750 MILLION $$$ in advance after all of the public funding they've already received

WHO welcomes funding commitments made at today’s #GVS2020, hosted virtually by the #UnitedKingdom government. The Summit is @gavi, the Vaccine Alliance’s third pledging conference and follows the successful Berlin summit in January 2015: bit.ly/2ADEZam
The new pledges will enable @gavi to protect the next generation and reduce disease inequality by reaching an additional 300 million children with vaccines by 2025. #GVS2020 #VaccinesWork bit.ly/2ADEZam
The bold funding commitments mean that the @gavi Alliance will be better able to maintain immunization in lower-income countries, mitigating the impact of the #COVID19 pandemic. They will also help strengthen health systems. #GVS2020 #VaccinesWork bit.ly/2ADEZam
