An EPIC thread on my unintentionally detailed new report investigating the very real threat posed to pedestrian space, disabled mobility and walking and wheeling targets by the national tidal wave of public on-street EV chargers needed to reach net zero: Streetspace Invaders

Enabling motorists without access to off-street parking to switch to EVs requires a vast rollout of public chargepoints - somewhere between 300-600k by 2030 - 10x as many as now - around a third of them on-street rather than at destinations or en-route

current rates of chargepoint installation are not keeping pace with the rate at which consumers are switching to EVs, generating mounting pressure on local authorities to accelerate installation rates on public highways

ELECTION THREAD!
Dearest Earthlings, I am proud to present my full manifesto for the 2021 London Elections. It is a fully-costed suite of policies which marries fiscal responsibility, social awareness, and not being an anti-vaccine nutjob. This is my 21-Point Plan for ‘21...!
✅ London Bridge to be renamed after Phoebe Waller.

#HammersmithBridge to be repaired, and renamed Wayne after the former England international footballer.

✅ Croydon to get a facelift, ironically.

✅ No shop to be allowed to sell a croissant for more than £1.

✅ Free parking between Vine Street and The Strand (for electric vehicles only)

✅ HS2 protestors to be allowed to build their tunnel at Euston, all the way to Birmingham. To be followed by a second tunnel that links Birmingham to Manchester

✅ Finish Crossrail.

Have started to notice commentary creeping into the discussion around #HammersmithBridge which suggests that the Government is not committed to getting this bridge fixed. This couldn’t be further from the truth, thread below outlines why 👇

The Government has done more in the past four months to build consensus and set a way forward to fix the bridge than anyone else. We only stepped in because we had to, given that progress over previous 12+months had been glacially slow.

We set up the #HammersmithBridge taskforce, brought in top engineers plus Dana Skelley to drive the project forward, have given @TfL £4m to begin bridge repairs and made it a condition of TfL's last bailout that active travel funding be used to provide a ferry service.
