The Patriot was my favorite wrestler as a kid. I will forever love his feud with Bret Hart and I maintain the tag team flag match he & Vader had against the Hart Foundation is madly underrated. Not to mention it led to one of the best promos ever with Vader against Bret.
The best there is...the best there was...the best there ever will be...Well ain't that a bunch of BULLSHIT!?

I was never able to actually get a Patriot action figure but I used to have this silver and blue Batman one with a wing deploy attachment that looked like a ring jacket and whenever I would play with my mini ring I would pretend Batman was The Patriot.

#DeclarationOfIndependence Draft 1: The King has "waged cruel War against human Nature itself, violating its most sacred Rights of Life & Liberty in the Persons of a distant People" by kidnapping & enslaving them.

Spoiler: #Slavery got cut in round 2. /thread #HappyFourthOfJuly
I'm not making this up. Here's more on the passage about #slavery that #ThomasJefferson put in the 1st draft of the #Declaration & took out of later drafts. #BlackLivesMatter blackpast.org/african-americ…
More on why #ThomasJefferson removed his fiery indictment of #slavery from later drafts of the Declaration. Fact that he was enslaving people as he wrote it was NOT the reason! #1619 #1776 history.com/news/declarati…

We are not as divided as we think. Some will consider this naive or "out of touch" but here me out:

Today, the *majority* of America is united. When you think about those outliers, they are who they always were. And we let them speak up and we stayed quiet. 1/x
There were always different groups separated by silence. Blacks looking for rights. Immigrants just trying to stay silent and let "real Americans" oppress them so as to not make waves LGBTQ (individually) looking for support, but didn't have a voice. They united as LGBTQ. 2/x
Marginalized people who when you think about it, were a majority of they came together. Now, today, after the injustices we've seen. The president and his divisive message, we are all united to help each other. Lest we forget the privileged white folks speaking up now. 3/x

If you're looking for a reminder of who America is this #FourthofJuly, I highly recommend @PadmaLakshmi's show Taste the Nation. The thoughtful, loving profiles of 10 communities, from the Gullah Geechee to Native Americans to Mexicans, reflect our true strength--our diversity.
Not only does it cover the history of #immigration, both by choice and against one's will, it explores #ClimateChange, the challenges of being bi/multiracial, manifestations of racism, and more, all through the lens of food.
And of course, the food looks amazing. (Side note: someone should make a compilation of Padma's "oh my god" reaction shots.) The episode on the struggles of Thai women of Las Vegas had me crying and drooling at the same time.

"Our founding fathers were not living gods...they were fallible human beings." The Declaration of Independence "did not condemn slavery, protect the rights of women or include Native Americans." salon.com/2019/07/04/fou…
The impact of the prejudices, biases & contradictions codified by our founding fathers is still felt today. We continue to struggle as a nation to embrace our full history, one that includes family separation of black families at the auction block & today of migrants at camps.
A country that has yet to realize it's full promise for every person that calls it home & indeed makes it great, & yet it is a free country, one where I can resist, offer dissenting & critical opinion & challenge with bold activist leadership.

1/ Many people are saying that there doesn't seem like there's much to celebrate today. I get it, but it occurs to me that what we celebrate today is what our Founding Fathers fought for in the first place, what we find ourselves fighting for again. Freedom. Peace. Human Rights.
2/While it is unconscionable that we're again in this position bc of the Trump administration, & our fellow's complacency, it's important to understand that perhaps today we have a GREAT DEAL to celebrate. We get to fix this broken system now. #HappyFourthOfJuly Be safe, kids!
And today I am celebrating the FACT that we've come together as a country to stand up for our rights, not the reasons why, but that when pushed we now know that we show up. Let's celebrate our energy, our commitment, our moral good. And then, let's stand strong again in November.
