the man wore a prisoner costume and a sign that read "Mask makes you free" (German: "Maske macht Frei"), as press photos showed. Since the man had contradicted the penalty order, the case will now be heard in December before the Cologne district court.
"It's about the interpretation of freedom of expression," said a spokesman. According to the public prosecutor's office, this does not cover the man's behavior. The National Socialists affixed the cynical words "Arbeit macht frei" to the gates of several concentration camps.
