1888-1893: how did the Hazara Genocide happend?

According to historian, #Hazarajat was often deemed as a semi-independent region. By 1891, apart from #Uruzgan (then Hazara dominated) every Hazarajat region was forced to pay heavy taxes to Abdul Rahman Khan.

#HazaraBlackDay
Between 1880 and 1891, king Abdul Rahman Khan not only increased the already exorbitant taxes but introduced new ones throughout #Hazarajat, except Uruzgan which the mirs and khans of Hazara refused according to some accounts.
The introduction triple taxing Hazaras co-incided with the fact #Mohammadzai branch of Durranis (ruling elites) in #Kabul were receiving annual allowances from the Emir as partners of the state (i. e. sharik-e dawlat).

25. "Most #Hazara men were killed during the fight which spanned from 1891 to 1893. Dr Lee says that over 50 percent of the Hazara "male population" died as "a direct or indirect result of the war." This is, in my personal opinion, a very reasonable figure.
26. "Most for the Hazara women and children were taken captive and sold as slaves. Throughout the country, #Hazaras constituted the overwhelming majority of slaves in the bazaars. In fact there were so many that they greatly decreased the prices of slaves.
27. "According to Dr Lee, "thousands of [Hazara] women were forcibly married to #Pashtuns in a deliberate attempt to destroy #Hazara social and religious hierarchies."

I am going to share some findings of @NamaKadrie about the history of the Hazaras in this thread. This may help you in understanding the current situation in Afghanistan a bit better.
1. "In analysing the history of #Afghanistan, scholars and historians often assessed the independence and autonomy of a given region based on their ability to resist an imposition of tax. Paying levies was therefore the way power-relations and supremacy was understood.
2. "In this sense, the #Hazarajat as a whole was what scholars often deemed as a “semi-independent” region. By 1891, aside from #Uruzgan, every other region (14 districts) of the #Hazarajat paid taxes to Abdur Rahman Khan.

#Hazaras of #Afghanistan (thread):
They are the country’s 3rd largest ethnic group. There has never been a census based on ethnicity. They are estimated to constitute about 20% of the population, though Hazaras themselves claim between 25-30%. Predominantly #Shia +Sunni, Ismaili
#Hazaras speak Persian (Dari) and are arguably considered to be genetically Turk-Mongol with central Asian features. Predominantly dwelling in central #Afghanistan, called Hazarajat (the land of Hazaras) They also dwell in #Pakistan’s Balochistan and #Iran.
According to some historians “the Hazara people have been living in #Afghanistan for more than 2,000 years.” And their persecution began after the subjugation and incorporation of their land (Hazarajat) by the brutal Afghan king, Amir Abdul Rahman Khan in late 19th century.

Some important, but valid questions arise as I reflect upon the protests that happened in opposition to #CAA all over the country. Collating my thoughts as a thread and sharing it. The questions are open for anyone to answer. (1/N)
@sakthi_ind93 @Swamy39 @MaridhasAnswers
The #CAA guarantees to instantly provide Citizenship to all persecuted minorities from Afghanistan, Pakistan and Bangladesh, who entered India before 31st Dec, 2014. There are 30K+ such immediate beneficiaries who will now be granted Indian Citizenship. (2/N)
Now, questions are raised by few senior MPs and politicians about why Muslims have been excluded. Obvious reasons include:

1. Out of the 30k people who are awaiting Indian #citizenship for many years, there are Hindus, Sikhs, Parsi, Jain, Buddhist and Christians. (3/N)

Most regions throughout the #Hazarajat were headed by ‘mirs’ or ‘khans’ and a system of feudalism operated throughout this sphere. 7/N.K.
