A class action lawsuit was filed in 2017 against Walmart by former employees including Otisha Woolbright who faced pregnancy discrimination in Illinois & Florida & claimed Walmart failed to provide thousands of pregnant workers on-the-job accommodations. (1/3) #HerDreamDeferred
Her requests asking that she be excused from lifting heavy trays of chicken was rejected by her supervisor who told her that she had seen a pregnant Demi Moore do a somersault on television. (2/3) #HerDreamDeferred
It was only after Woolbright rushed to the hospital after lifting 35 lbs tray of rotisserie chickens that Walmart allowed her sedentary work but unfortunately she was terminated for asking about maternity leave. (3/3)

Last August, Aretha Franklin’s Black feminist legacy was disgracefully memorialized at her own funeral. Led by Rev Jasper Williams Jr., the so-called celebration of the Queen of Soul turned its back on Black women, #BlackLivesMatter, and single mothers. (1/5)
Thus, despite serving as a beacon for Black women over the course of her multi-decade career, Aretha was effectively denied the chance to be toasted, memorialized, and paid homage on Black women’s terms. This, unfortunately, is not an uncommon tale. (2/5)
