1. Plenty of people put in plenty of effort to help these #HongKong-related laws — which you may or may not like — materialize. Since you asked, let me answer. Congress first introduced the #HKHRDA amid the Umbrella Movement, when it received zero attention from @BarackObama.
2. Never from 2014 to 2018 had it even moved out of committee in either chamber. Yes, it passed the Senate last fall when no one denied @marcorubio’s request for unanimous consent, but he took a while to defeat closed-door special interests before he could bring it to the floor.

2/ I still recall the bitter moment as we first lobbied the bill 5 years ago with @jeffreychngo but the unwavering determination to defend HK's freedom drove us along this journey.
3/ The bill signifies fundamental change of US's China policy and a new stage of the US-HK relation. Moving on, @demosisto, @hkdc_us, @nathanlawkc, @jeffreychngo and I will continue our efforts in other countries to encourage similar legislative efforts and sanctions mechanism.

2/ The assembly was yielding US Congress to support #HKHRDA. I was to speak about banning of my candidacy but peaceful assembly was arbitrarily called off by police. Minutes after, Central became smoky as police fired teargas, injuring a lot without masks.
3/ At #VictoriaPark, election hustings halted as police arrested 3 candidates on top of teargas and pepper spray. One had clear wound on his face during arrest.
