🚨#homegrownslavery & EU citizens - April 4th 18:00-19:00
Many employers do not understand immigration status documents. Faced with fines for getting it wrong, they are afraid to employ refugees and other non-EU migrants. Brexit only exacerbates the situation, as it is no longer
clear to employers which EU migrants have the right to work in the UK. This creates a climate in which we face discrimination, exploitation and even unlawful detention
A case study of EU citizens pushed into exploitation, and migration laws being used as a backdoor to undermine
our labour rights under the withdrawal agreement. EU citizens and EU leaders must learn from the experience of Non-EEA and EU citizens from BME backgrounds, who have been forced into exploitation since 1996, and recently, through the Temporary visa schemes in various sectors.

Institutional racism does not exist, they said, last year. google.com/amp/s/www.inde… Also, while some remain deeply invested in the idea that forced labour has nothing to do with structural inequalities, or that in this
context race and gender matter little, there is an abundance of research that demonstrates that poverty and labour exploitation disproportionately impact women, lower castes, and non-white and indigenous people.
#homegrownslavery, labour exploitation at the intersection
of migration and labour laws is rooted in discrimination. Migrants who have the legal right to work are shafted into exploitation because of #right2workchecks is to complex. From 6 April, #IDVTchecks will push Brits &Irish ctzns into exploitation.

Dear Brothers and sisters EU citizens,

Two weeks ago,we won the @HumanTraffFdn 's Anti-slavery day Awards 2021 in the category 'Empowering Survivors Voices'.
While some remain deeply invested in the idea that forced labour has nothing to do with structural inequalities,or that
in this context race and gender matter little, based on our lived experience, we can say that what we call #homegrownslavery is rooted in race and immigration status discrimination. Unlike modern slavery , homegrown slavery can be tackled very easily.
'Your work to tackle the exploitation and discrimination faced by migrants workers ,and your efforts to raise awareness of these issues , is exemplary, and has been recognised by the judging panel as outstanding. Therefore , we have arranged for £... [T]

🚨 International migrants' day🚨humantraffickingfoundation.org/news/2021/11/1…
"While British survivors of Modern Slavery are now recognised as the largest cohort in referrals to the National Referral Mechanism, the Government’s framework for identifying victims, their voices are not being heard." And
#labourmigrationcontrol measures shaft migrants, who have the legal right to work, into slavery. But we only talk about international human trafficking for modern slavery. Between 13-18 Dec, for the International Migrants' day, we will bring you events, workshops, radio show in
in Birmingham to raise awareness about #homegrownslavery. We can easily tackle the roots of this form of exploitation without changing any laws. What is needed is investment and commitment. We will introduce you to our first working group to offer solutions to our problems. Image

@JCWI_UK @VirendraSharma It is how #homegrownslavery is created. Immigration law creates vulnerability. We have been saying this for a very longtime. The government is responsible for modern slavery.
@JCWI_UK @VirendraSharma We don't know if people realise how important this piece research is. We don't have the resources to produce any research, so thank you Jcwi for this research. This paper shows that the government is 82% responsible for #homegrownslavery. The new immigration bill is on its way
@JCWI_UK @VirendraSharma It is likely to exacerbate the problem and make the work of the GLAA more challenging as victims of modern slavery will be required to provide relevant information relating to being a victim of  slavery or human trafficking within a specified period

"People claiming asylum or human rights protections will be required to provide relevant information relating to being a victim of slavery or human trafficking within a specified period. If they provide information outside of that period, they will need to
provide a statement setting out their reasons for doing so." it is extremely challenging for victims of modern slavery to come forward. Now we will have to collect evidence from their perpetrators. gov.uk/government/spe… the government is handing over the perfect legislation
to criminals to exploit vulnerable migrants. We are extremely concerned by Part 4 of this new Bill. The government is not only missing an opportunity to fulfil its legal obligations under the ILO protocol on forced labour, this bill will actually ensure that victims remain

What is the legal difference between EU pre-Settled Status and Settled Status, in terms of employment rights ? None
However, In practice, many employers think it means half rights. If we apply for a full time permanent job, some employers will change it to a full time
temp job, or refuse to take us on until we get the complete settled status. These unlawfully practices impact on EEA now, but it could have been prevented cos non-EEA& EEA from BAME background have been going through similar experience since 1994. It became worse in 2008(picture)
Art 18 of withdrawal, gov must issue a certificate of application 4the residence status,if we have the right to commence residence after the end of the transition period. This protect our statutory right to work. Non Regression clause in the EU/UK FTA protects our rights at work.
