We know that cause of homelessness is the lack of affordable housing, particularly for those making <30% area median income (AMI). Also: historical/structural racism, income inequality/lack of living wage/lack of pensions, ableism. This is what causes homelessness 2/x
We know that permanent supportive housing (PSH)-deeply subsidized housing w supportive services offered VOLUNTARILY (Housing First) is the soln to chronic homelessness. (~85% of ppl w chronic homelessness & behavioral disabilities who enter PSH are housed successfully). 3/x

Yes!⬇️⬇️⬇️ We all agree that the soln to homelessness is housing & PSH solves chronic homelessness. We know that there are many ?? about best way to design programs/systems; build political will; align health & housing for those w high needs. (Housing is the best medicine) 1/x

1/15 More research is needed to help solve homelessness. It’s Friday, so time for a thread. I stopped at 15 but could go on. Not in order. More research needed, doesn’t mean we shouldn't fund housing now. We should. #homelessnesschat
1/ How big is the “in-flow” of people into homelessness (i.e., new people entering homelessness)? Reduce homelessness=exits > inflow but we don’t know the inflow #.
2/Absent providing universal vouchers (an idea that is supported by the evidence) how can we effectively prevent and protect against displacement, eviction, and homelessness?
