*español abajo*The number of evictions filed weekly in Boston is up nearly 75% from last year. We need STRONG tenant protections. Sadly, we’re seeing MA ROLLBACK on tenant protections, like trying to end Chapter 257 at the end of this month & trying to roll back & LOWER Image
financial support from statewide rental relief applications to rates LOWER than pre-pandemic times even though the housing crisis is worse. For those who don’t know, chapter 257 PREVENTS judges from deciding on an eviction case while the tenant has a statewide rental relief Image
application in process. This meant that NO eviction decision was made until your rental relief application was either approved or rejected, which protected MANY people from losing their homes. @MassGovernor @maura_healey, we NEED these tenant protections extended & expanded, Image

I have the privilege of facilitating an amazing group of people working toward housing and racial justice. A few reflections from this week's convening in Denver for @funderstogether's 2nd Foundations for Racial Equity cohort: Image
Our friends @sjdollard1 and @newworldtls are doing incredible work to support housing justice & modeled for us how to create an intentional and inclusive space. They brought in Community Language Cooperative, who offered a language justice statement and provided live translation.
A shoutout to the three groups that came to share their work with us: @GES_Coalition, Native American Housing Circle, and The Reciprocity Collective -- please check out their amazing #HousingJustice work!

I’m in Rockville this morning observing Landlord-Tenant Court - Failure to Pay Rent cases. More updates to come. #HousingJustice #evictioncrisis
It was a heartbreaking day in Rent Court, and I have many thoughts to share. First, a reminder that current federal and state protections are set to expire in the coming weeks. These protections were the ONLY thing that kept countless families from being evicted today.
With fed & state eviction protections set to expire soon, a reminder that my legislation to keep protection policies in place sat in the state senate for 3 weeks before running out of time ahead a final vote on Sine Die. The state could have and should have stepped up. #forshame

As we grapple with LA's failure to house its people, we want to reaffirm a commitment to equity and fairness in our approach. @CamnerLeonora wrote about why it is important for the #yimby movement to center WHERE to put housing and for WHOM:

abundanthousingla.org/a-yimby-moveme…
Abundant Housing LA is building the pro-housing movement for LA. But it’s not enough to just be supportive of housing in general. Achieving housing abundance requires thoughtful approaches that center equity, racial justice, and environmentalism.

abundanthousingla.org/policyagenda/
Abundant Housing is committed to critically reexamining our approach to housing, our past positions, and direction in the context of equity and racial justice.

The biggest crime of @TheDemocrats is allowing #USA's citizens to become believers in #fascism & #misogyny & Ayn Randian #socialdarwinism by neglecting to defend #humanrights & #genderequality & #socialjustice & pursing corporate $. Biden might sneak this one out, but @Gop won
seats in House of Representatives & will likely retain control of Senate. So Biden may choose to use Executive Orders to roll back reimplement some of the 2nd Term Obama EOs which Trump reversed. But Biden won't be able, even if he wanted to do much to challenge oligarchy or
any of the other structures undergirding #militarism & #whitesupremacy. Forget about #GreenNewDeal, #M4A #singlepayer, #debtforgiveness, #housingjustice, #freecollege, raising national minimum wage, pathway to citizenship, etc. So, 4 years from now, demoralized voters will be

THREAD: Today the House is voting on H.4879, an economic development bill to provide needed investments in housing, support for small businesses and restaurants, and recovery efforts. There are many good pieces of this bill. But right now I want to talk about #HousingJustice
The bill contains the Governor's Housing bill, which is just one way to address our housing crisis that does not address affordability. I sponsored and am supporting several amendments to strengthen the housing policies in the bill & address affordability and tenant protections-
This includes right to counsel, eviction protections, tenant right to purchase, local option transfer fees, multi-family housing near transit, housing for people with disabilities, and the COVID-19 Housing Stability Act.

I sometimes feel @georgialibs don't get enough high quality, academic press #history & #sociology books. Using the GA Pines automated system, people who are members of participating libraries can get a number of very good books which have recently come to my attention.
"The oldest living things in the world" by Rachel Sussman gapines.org/eg/opac/record…. This photo essay book is a beautiful, mind-expanding paean to our biosphere. (I realize this is a #science #ecology book)
"Talking to my daughter about the economy, or, how capitalism works-- and how it fails" by Yanis Varoufakis @yanisvaroufakis gapines.org/eg/opac/record…
