Barcelona are interested in signing Celtic right-back Josip Juranovic.

Two unnamed Premier League clubs and Atletico Madrid are also looking at the Croatia international.

(w/@skysports_sheth)
Celtic have wanted to keep Juranovic and have been in talks over improved terms on a new contract, but neither party could reach an agreement before the #FIFAWorldCup.

It's understood Celtic will sit down with Juranovic again next week, but are braced for bids next month.
Juranovic has been given a week off following #HRV World Cup exit and will be assessed for the injury, which kept him out of their third place play-off win over Morocco on Saturday.

Argentina's coaching staff look emotional. They've given some caps out to fringe players and the crowd are singing a cathartic anthem.
One of the most beautiful atmospheres I've witnessed. The players are joining in with the song on the bench.
Argentina are in the #FIFAWorldCup final. One last chance for Lionel Messi to win this competition against either France or Morocco. #ARG #HRV

Image

🇭🇷 The amount of disrespect Croatia are getting is ridiculous.

That was evident from media, Twitter accounts which follow football and, of course, general public. I haven’t seen a singe poll on Twitter giving Croatia more than 10% chance of going through to the semifinals.
Let this be a lesson to those who completely wrote off Croatia when you saw they were up against Brazil. And I am not writing this in a condescending/patronizing way. I’d like you to think what you thought about that match before the start and what are you thinking right now.

WC Quarter-Final Team Profiles

I was generating post-match reports since the beginning of the tournament. @FPL_Chase came up with the idea of compiling that data to map team profiles. With the help of two amazing people (@FPL_Jan and @FPLEchidna) we generated some reports.
For each team, a visualization of clustered progressive pass and carry paths is given. 'Progressive' refers to moves that increase chance of scoring a goal, measured by 'Expected Threat'. It is hard to generalize attacking patterns in a World Cup due to limited number of games.
We are providing raw data along with some comments. We listed top providers and receivers for each pass cluster, and top players for carry clusters. Numbers next to player names show the total Expected Threat generated in that cluster by the player.

As a follow-up to my article on the #WorldCup2022 for @PillarCatholic, a couple of notes on religious aspects of this tournament.
pillarcatholic.com/world-cup-feve…
1. This is the first time the World Cup is being played in a Muslim country, and only the second outside of the traditionally Christian world. The first was South Korea & Japan in 2002.
2. 2002 also marked the furthest a traditionally Muslim country ever progressed in the World Cup, with #Turkey placing 3rd, after beating South Korea in a very exciting game.

"What tips would you give to coaches just starting out?"

A brief thread 👇
1/ Relentlessly pursue experience with World Class coaches/teams.

My coaching certifications/qualifications, heck even my 6 years in University, pales into insignificance when compared to what I learned from my time with World Class coaches. Get it at all costs. It's worth it.
2/ Know your history

There is a lot of crap out there right now in the way of training manuals, texts, scientific studies &, IMO, many the best resources were written years ago.

Study Lydiard, study Carlile, study Counsilman, study Matveyev, study Bompa. They are full of gems!

It seems that this technology topic is pretty polarizing! So, let's keep at it! 😊

I do get it. There is some useless crap out there.

So what *doesn't* fall under the category of useless crap? What "technology" do I recommend? And why?

A brief thread 👇
1/

What: A reliable Heart Rate Monitor

Why: When it comes to exercise prescription, internal load matters! I want to know how much internal stress the athlete is under for a given external load. Heart rate provides an easy window into that.
2/

What: A proven #HRV tool (e.g. ithlete, HRV4Training) + my quality heart rate strap

Why: Training load only makes up a small % of the overall stress for most athletes. HRV provides an otherwise invisible window to the *global* stress on the athlete's nervous system.

Are you ignoring one of the most important indicators of your health?

Companies like @whoop, @ouraring and @eightsleep have figured out how important #HRV is and they're building businesses on top of it.

Here's what you need to know.

🧵 Image
1/ WHAT IS #HRV?

Heart rate variability is the measure of the time between each beat of your heart—and more specifically, how that changes over time.
2/ We might know that our Resting Heart Rate is 60, for example, but unlike a metronome, the time between beats is not the same.

I received a qu:

"How do I get started testing my #HRV?"

So, a quick thread 👇
1/ Ask Santy Claus for a high quality bluetooth heart rate strap like the Polar H10

polar.com/us-en/products…
2/ Get one of the validated #HRV apps on your phone.

I recommend either

HRV4Training (hrv4training.com)

or

@myithlete (the app that I use - myithlete.com)

How to use & get the most from #HRV guided training (w/@myithlete)... a short thread.

1. Why should I use a #HRV guided approach to training over a traditional approach? 👇

1/x
A number of studies have shown significantly greater improvement in both fitness and performance when using a #HRV guided approach, e.g. this from Kiviniemi et al. showing ~4x improvement in VO2max for the HRV guided group over the traditional!

2/x

link.springer.com/article/10.100…
How do we implement a #HRV guided approach?

Rather than predetermining key workout days & recovery days, we let our body decide! When #HRV is ⬆️, we load. When #HRV is ⬇️,we recover

In @myithlete we also factor subjective metrics and training load to pick the best workout

I see quite a few items on #HRV as a predictor of good health. Nothing new.

As a student in France, that is 30 years ago it was used as generic test for all.

Idea : 30 fast squats, check heart rate before, just after, then three minutes later.

The biggest the differences
it was assumed the better, middle take high, others low rate.

Supposed to mean that heart was adjusting very fast up and down.

I could see from my pals that there was indeed a"visible" correlation.

Also, it was already well known in the 1980s that even for explosive exercise
that is sprints or weightlifting, you required a base of endurance usually at a very young age, before moving towards the "antagonist" explosive power.

Otherwise, your body would not take the training.

Weightlifting school of Bulgaria knew it (plus chemicals).

Friends and CardioTwitter,
How can Heart Rate Variability (#HRV ) be informative if it moves intraday by 1 order of magnitude?
Another statistical problem: standard deviation must not be stochastic for standard metrics.
Is it so observation dependent?
Looks like HRV may contain *some* information in very long term trends but this shows you observe mostly noise.
No single observation has observation unless it is in the very far tail.
OK, OK
HRV data fits the Lognormal like a glove. A high variance Lornormal (Max=40 times Min!), so not good news. I would ignore the metric even if it seems to selectively fit some diagnosis of Covid or overtraining.
