I read new research every day. It's one of the few good habits I have.

That's usually why I'm in such a lovely mood. Peep this. #hrvreading

It's acupuncture on heart transplant patients using HRV. As might be expected, this annoys me fractally.

First of all, electroacupuncture. The only thing this has in common with regular acupuncture is the traditional names of the sites (Neiguan and Jiangshi).
I asked the guy who invented this protocol once "why do you call it acupuncture instead of percutaneous median nerve electrostimulation?" and he said it was to "respect traditions". Translation: it's a lot more fundable.

This is a public service announcement to anyone doing heart rate variability (HRV) research. This is, in approx order of relevance, med sci, psych sci, sports sci, wearables/HCI/neurotech.

You. Must. Read. About. The. Neurophysiology. Of. The. Tools. You. Use.
The old, familiar, monolithic concepts are absolutely not a reflection of the present research - which is a quiet area, but what research IS going on is *hugely* relevant to your using simple methods to turn measured physiology into health or behavioural correlates.
I absolutely cannot overemphasize this. The non-appreciation of what HRV *IS* hugely important and hugely absent from HRV measurement.

That brings us to today's paper. #hrvreading
