Looking forward to the opening plenary of #IASFM17 with @vanhear53 presenting his work with Robin Cohen on Imagining Refugia. Really not a fan of this idea but happy to be persuaded otherwise... 
Various ‘solutions’ have been proposed over recent years many of which focus on the idea of creating islands or states in which refugees could live ‘out of sight, out of mind’, presumably #IASFM17
‘Refugia’ is transnational variant of this idea which focuses on ‘where’ question...I’m already feeling uneasy...since when was ‘refugeeness’ a good basis for building communities? Refugees are many things other than their migration experience #IASFM17
Good to have the perspectives of refugees themselves represented at #IASFM17 but it’s the tail end of Day 3. These voices should be front and centre. We have build our careers on backs of forced migrants, we absolutely have to start with refugees and include them in every aspect
And so important to have direct/literal interpretation rather than the interpreter adding their own comments or thoughts about the speakers situation and experiences.

Strategic ligation should, however, understood within broader processes of social change, needs to be oriented towards addressing systemic issues which might engage a wider group #IASFM17
