Today, @ICEgov removed 102 Haitians on a charter flight from San Antonio, Texas to Port-au-Prince, including 17 children aged 2 and under. In the middle of a pandemic, and in the middle of a political crisis in Haiti. Another #ICEAir flight is scheduled for Thursday.

Great to hear calls for new public health guidelines for air travel in light of COVID-19. But any credible guidelines must tackle the public health practices of #ICEAir, which have been ignored for years despite contagion, abuse, and violence on planes. A thread:
In recent weeks it's become clear that ongoing deportation of infected migrants is spreading the virus to countries with struggling health systems, like Guatemala -- where the Health Ministry says as many as 50-75% of deportees have tested positive,
...or Haiti, where PAHO is now warning of an "impending humanitarian crisis" in light of COVID-19, and yet deportations continue apace, despite calls for their suspension by @RepWilson and @EdMarkey

We notice when things change. The last 2 weeks as we watched the flights of #ICEAir, we noticed something different happening. New flights from near the border, to Mexico City.

They are just like immediate expulsions at border that are being carried out under orders of the @CDCgov that pretend that we are being invaded by carriers of #COVIDー19. I say pretend because our gov has been wanting to do this all along-... 3/7

Yakima's role in the immigration detention and deportation pipeline in the Pacific Northwest has expanded following the shift of #ICEAir flights from Boeing Field in Seattle earlier this year. Our latest report:
jsis.washington.edu/humanrights/20…
Each week, approximately 90 people now flow through Yakima in ICE custody (~30 via Yakima County jail, + ~60 via #ICEAir at the city-owned airport), destined for detention at the "Northwest ICE Processing Center" (f.k.a. Northwest Detention Center) in Tacoma, WA.
Each week, an additional 70 people on average move through Yakima for deportation via #ICEAir at Yakima Air Terminal-McAllister Field. The latest deportation flight arrived in Yakima from Phoenix, AZ just 10 minutes ago: flightaware.com/live/flight/SW…
