This paper is the result of a survey we did on social media in Feb-Mar 2019 so pre pandemic. We posted a @Bitly link daily on our accounts to track engagement. 464 completed our survey of 1103 views (42%).

I am still having trouble processing all of the emotions right now.

Didn’t sleep last night, too anxious about the needle...did I tell you I didn’t like needles? Never have...I’m nervous before every vaccine and blood draw.

Spent 15 mins in my car anxious before going in...
When I got in I went straight to sit for my injection. Very nice nurse asked me a bunch of questions about my risk factors, prior allergic reactions, and possible covid symptoms.

Then she got down to business. I started talking to the camera because I got nervous again.
She was so kind. I told her I didn’t like needles. She spared me the countdown so I wouldn’t know when it was happening and tense up (vaccine needles hurt more when you tense up)

I felt the needle. It hurt. But honestly, Tdap vaccine jab was worse.

Then she was done.

1/ Thoughts/reflections on the events of the last 24 hours with the vaccine rollout at Stanford... One of the most upsetting 24 hours I have ever experienced.
2/ The rollout was an absolute mess. Pledges that were made were not followed through on. Housestaff were rightly upset to (for all practical purposes) be completely left out of the first wave. They are our very definition of frontline physicians.
3/ There will need to be a deep dive into how exactly this happened. I am at least happy to say that I have learned enough over the course of the day to know that this was not malice or a specific intent to exclude the housestaff. (cont.)
