We Need To Base Our Understanding of Reality Upon Reality, Not Manipulation.

Everything You Think You Know About Disease Is Likely Wrong....
In order to understand the world around us as the truth about it is emerging from a 100+ year slumber, it’s going to be important to challenge ideas that have absolutely zero basis in reality.

I will start off by saying that we have been duped - ALL OF US.

1/5 As many of you here watch family, friends, associates and colleagues living their best lives out there, as #COVID19 surges, please know that many ARE NOT okay.

"Psychoanalyst Judith Alpert theorizes that our culture is terrified of death, illness, and vulnerability."
2/5 "Thus, “[t]hose who have contact with the #chronically #ill . . . do not want to be #reminded of #vulnerability and #ultimate #demise. In turn, the demand placed on the chronically ill is to #control, #hide, and #overcome the #chronic #illness.” (Alpert, 2012)."
3/5 Many of those who appear to be living their best lives are faking wellness to fit in.

1/🧵 I think Chris Rock wouldn't have made a joke about Jada's illness if more folks were educated about the high prevalence of autoimmune & other chronic disorders.

2/ As a woman who lives with multiple immune-related disorders, when a comedian makes a joke about chronic illness, I feel unseen...not just for me, but for all my fellow #chronicfolks. Does Chris Rock have any idea what Jada goes through to live with alopecia? Probably not.
3/ As a country, we need to create more dialogue around chronic illness, and especially autoimmune diseases. They are so prevalent yet they are usually talked about in whispers....'Oh, she has Crohn's.' Cancer used to be spoken about in hushed words, too.

1 aspect of my body I'm not happy with is my terrible immune system

while I didn't officially become disabled until I was 18,
my quality of life often was effectively chronically ill growing up,

I catch everything, & when I get sick I stay sick for twice as long as others
For my teen years, I literally got pneumonia every year
Being always sick made keeping up with school really difficult, especially with my caring responsibilities

My grades struggled & until college I believed I had no intellectual potential at all
I bring this up to point out a major modern broken aspect of our medical system & the way American society approaches an illness,

Specific identified illnesses & diseases,
names & cures, societal false/true for claims of illness

Thanks @DrDavidACox for interviewing me for this article on #LongCovid. There’s also great info in the article on research showing #viral RNA in the brains of patients w/ post-SARS syndrome, and viral reservoirs in patients w/ post-Ebola Syndrome: bbc.com/future/article…

Sharing the following thread, in keeping with the spirit of faith and peace and joy and love — all that should be encompassing this holiday season, and every day. From one who has been directly affected by debilitating, life-altering #illness + loss of income due to disability...
... and significant loss of all household income as direct result of #COVID19 — sheltering in place for a month, which turned into lockdowns and virtual everything for almost a year now — when will this end?

V. thought provoking seminar today @TRI_info by Prof John Huss entitled ‘Ecological medicine & medical ecology’. Discussed were ecological strategies for #coral remediation and the #microbiome. But more interesting was unpacking the #philosophy of biological research!.... (1/12)
The field of microbiome #research is still very young, and it’s hard to get a handle on what is established and where exactly the field will progress (2/12)
However, there seem to be two different concepts thrown around when people talk about the microbiome:
a) Micro-biome: a biome of microbes, an ecological conception.
b) Microbi-ome: the microbial genome, a molecular conception.
