The Independent News Emergency Relief Coordination (#INERC) launched a month ago today to (1) collect data on #covid19 crisis impact on independent news media, (2) help funders coordinate, and (3) offer guidelines for those willing and able to step up.

INERC is a temporary collaboration, supplementing many other important efforts, launched by founding members @bbcmediaaction, @CIMA_Media, @Facebook, @MediaGFMD, @Google, @luminategroup, @macfound, and @NewspaperWorld, all already connected through discussions around #IFPIM.
Since launch, we have started fielding our joint survey, now almost ready to launch in additional launches, and welcomed new members @gatesfoundation, @DemocracyFund, @ejcnet, @IWMF, and @OSFJournalism, all of whom fund independent news media reutersinstitute.politics.ox.ac.uk/risj-review/up…

2. #Covid_19 means many independent news media face catastrophic declines in revenues and consequently significant cost-cutting or closing down. This is bad for accountability, and undermines news media's ability to keep public informed.
