He represents three men who were politically active in the period covered by this 'Tranche' of the @ucpinquiry – the years 1968-82 – Tariq Ali, Piers Corbyn and Ernie Tate.

We see a Circular sent by the SS to Chief Constables about 'subversive activities' in schools, asking them to share any information about this.

Was Moss aware of it?
No
By the time you were DCI of the SDS unit?
Maybe “but I wouldn't swear to it”.

His memory loss was less extensive than the other former #spycops we've heard from. But memory loss can be a selective thing.
He clammed up when asked about the events in Southall on 23 April '79 & claimed not to remember anyone in the @metpoliceuk discussing Blair Peach's death.
@metpoliceuk ...even though we know that #spycops attended Blair's funeral, and spied on the subsequent campaigning for justice ever since. Coates said he couldn't remember any discussion of all that within the SDS.

Day 12 of this set of #spycopsinquiry hearings is starting now

Today is devoted entirely to the evidence of one former undercover officer, HN304, aka 'Graham Coates'.

He has a lot to say about his time in the #spycops unit, the Special Demonstration Squad (SDS).

On this day 30 years ago, McDonald's served a libel writ on me as I stepped from the van of my then partner, who unbeknown to me was an undercover policeman, John Dines, who was spying on me & other campaigners in London Greenpeace #spycops #McLibel #OTD

The writ alleged McDonald's had been libelled in a leaflet produced by London Greenpeace, which was co-written by another undercover policeman, Bob Lambert. The resulting court case lasted 3 years, but at no time was the role of the

After the case ended we sued the police as it had emerged the police had provided confidential information about us to McDonald's to enable them to sue us. The police apologised and paid damages, but still didn't reveal the role of #spycops in the case
