Thread on #InsurrectionAct. After Hurricane Katrina, when civil society had broken down and basic food and water needs not addressed, Pres. Bush was presented with the option to invoke the #Insurrection Act to deploy active military. The merits were strong. Still, he declined 1/
It will go down as one of the most "what if" questions of that era. Deployments like that are complicated and it is naive to think the military would have solved everything.
But perhaps they could have solved more. And Bush liked military efforts, after all. 2/
In his recollections, and others, it was the idea of deploying active military, not trained for such efforts, opposed by the Governor (a Democrat then), and the precedent it would set for the nation that got him to no. 3/

1) Everyone take a deep breath. Let's say a pre recorded video was televised in real time by their partners in crime, to the public & a deep fake at that... Are you following me? The law says the oath is to take place at noon on the 20th, not before. #notmypresident2021
2)President Trump evoked the #InsurrectionAct on the 16th. He assigned the government watch over to the #usmilitary.
They are in control. That barbwire fence isn't coming down anytime soon. Trump said he was coming back soon and he will! #NOTMYPRESIDENTBIDEN
3) The 20th Amendment moves the date of inauguration from March to "noon on the 20th day of January."  Under the Constitution, the old president continues to hold full power through 11:59:59, and then power shifts at noon. #NotMyPresidentBiden

🚨🚨BREAKING: #MyPillow CEO Michael Lindell’s notes for his meeting with Trump show that he lobbied to install Trump loyalists to gin up “evidence” of electoral “fraud” and impose #MartialLaw to keep Trump in power.

The #TrumpCoupAttempt continues.🤬

washingtonpost.com/politics/2021/…
#InsurrectionAct now as a result of the assault on the...#MartialLaw if necessary upon the first hint of any”

Lindell appears to be arguing that, in response to the violence at the Capitol, Trump should invoke the #InsurrectionAct, which would allow him to impose #MartialLaw.🤬
“Move Kash Patel to @CIA Acting.”

Kash Patel—former staffer to @DevinNunes—was key in Nunes’s efforts to undercut the #TrumpRussia investigation.

As CIA Director, he could declassify documents related to the #TrumpRussia🇷🇺probe that some #traitors want released.🤬

With focus on Secretary Esper's failure to clearly disavow use of troops at polls...

This important nugget in June 2020:

@peterbakernyt reported: Esper SUPPORTED using Insurrection Act in Oval Office meeting (before Esper then felt pressure and publicly opposed later)
2. Baker also reported Chairman Milley strongly opposed use of Insurrection Act in that Oval Office meeting

That's consistent with Milley's strong, clear stance (in contrast with Esper) against use of military in US elections

@NPRinskeep 10/11 interview:

3. Report on Esper's weak response to Congress on question of using military in the election (contrasted with General Milley's solid response to Congress).

There’s no excuse for the federal government not crushing BLM mobs in Washington, DC. No governor to complain, plenty of federal police officers and military assets, votes Dem and every chain of command rolls right up to the Oval Office. Make an example. #InsurrectionAct #MAGA
If you acknowledge that Antifa and BLM are domestic terrorist organizations, and how can you not at this point, it’s obvious that they shouldn’t be allowed to agitate in our nation’s capital. They certainly shouldn’t be able to menace members of Congress leaving the White House.
Moreover, and this reform can wait until 2021, Washington, DC shouldn't even have a mayor. The Republican Party should repeal DC home rule as soon as it regains power in Congress. Run it from the Capitol. Our nation deserves a showcase capital, not another Democrat-run sh*thole.

Between now and November, more protests are possible. @realDonaldTrump could use them as justification to invoke the #InsurrectionAct and interfere with the #2020Election. The public needs to know if that'd be lawful.
Secy @EsperDoD says at all times the Guard units from outside DC were under section 502(f) authority and remained at all times under the command of their governors.
Who commanded the National Guard not to use firearms?

The Insurrection Act of 1807 states that it can only be enacted when states have exhausted their own resources. President Trump has threatened to invoke the Insurrection Act nationwide, even without the express consent of state governors. This is unconstitutional.
As President, I would never deploy American troops on our own soil. States and localities can, and should, engage in deescalation tactics to calm the situation and come to a solution within their own communities.
Property destruction and violence against innocent people is wrong. I fully support the right of individuals to protect themselves, and their property with our second amendment right to bear arms.

Rumours that #Trump may make an announcement in the Rose Garden later today invoking the #InsurrectionAct.

This 213-year-old law would allow him to deploy active-duty US troops to respond to #BLACK_LIVES_MATTER protests.

If he does, it will not end well. nbcnews.com/politics/polit…
Military trucks with soldiers have moved into place around the White House.

#Trump is expected to speak soon.

This isn’t the time to escalate an already combustible situation
by deploying soldiers onto streets already bristling with anger.

#Trump says states should “deploy the National Guard in sufficient numbers that we dominate the streets. If any city or state refuses...I will deploy the US military & quickly solve the problem for them.”

This is a dark moment for America & for Americans.
