Rules of Engagement #WorldAutismAwarenessDay 1) foster #AutisticAcceptance 2) Believe us when we say, Puzzle Pieces DO NOT help promote #AutisticAcceptance (Dig Deeper into the very problematic history of Autism organizations to understand why)
3) Avoid using toys or childhood images to represent #Autism. #Autistics are #Autistic and will remain as such. We are #DifferentNotLess. When you use toys to represent us, it infantilizes our authentic Ways of Being. Use Rainbow Infinity or Gold Infinity symbols instead
4) Always take an #Intersectional approach to understanding #AutisticTruths. We are from all faiths, cultures, gender identities and more, but our experiences are dramatically impacted by how the world sees our diverse layers of identity and whether we are multiply marginalized

1/ I loved yesterday’s panel talk on #Sanism with @viscidula @liminal67 @climateshlock et al. We finished by discussing internalised Sanism & how this impacts each of us as individuals & as activists. Nothing hurts like fellow activists tearing you down or bullying you. Part of >

How womens restrooms can be made more inclusive: a thread 🧵
1. Remove bathroom locks - locks in bathrooms create a sense of hostility and may make many folk feel unwelcome. This is particularly important for people who want access to join someone else in their cubicle. (cont..)
The removal of locks would transfer bathrooms from isolationist spaces (with notions of neoliberal individualism) into collective, social spaces, creating a better sense of community and solidarity amongst women, & facilitating more effective organization for womens liberation.

1/29. 📜NEW BRIEF: Today we launch “PASSED THE POINT OF NO RETURN: A Non-Economic #LossAndDamage (#NELD) Explainer” covering what #NELD is, why and how it happens, where it happens, who is most affected, and importantly, how we can respond.

🔗Get it here: lossanddamagecollaboration.org/publication/pa…
2/29. The brief begins with a foreword by @UNFCCC NELs Expert Group Member @IrfanUllahCDO, who highlights that Non-Economic #LossAndDamage has been largely overlooked in climate negotiations and that urgent action is needed to address #NELD happening now e.g. The #PakistanFloods.
3/29. Then @DLodry of @LossDamageYouth shares the powerful story of his lived experience of Non-Economic #LossAndDamage in #Cameroon called "The Tears Of A Village River And Its Population" which tells how climate-intensified #Drought can lead to a loss of #Culture and #Identity.

A new special issue! 📚

@swenhutter & I are happy to announce the publication of "New Contentious Politics. Civil Society, Social Movements, and the Polarisation of German Politics". Check out the great contributions! #protest

➡️ tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.10… @GermanPolJnl (1/11)
Our SI studies "new contentious politics": A #double #transformation of contemporary protest arenas, marked by (1) new issues & claims from the left to the far-right as well as (2) hybrid organisational forms & a close interaction between protest and electoral politics. 🪧 (2/11)
In "Civil Society, Cleavage Structures, and Democracy in Germany", E. #Grande studies the importance of new political #cleavages for understanding protest. Crucially, he points to the ambivalent relationship between civil society & #democracy.

#Thread September is PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) Awareness Month!
The patriarchal gender bias in healthcare care practice and medicinal research has a negative impact on our well-being!
The impact is huge and diverse! People living with PCOS find it challenging to navigate through the bias that distorts research, diagnosis, and treatment. According to research, PCOS is fast becoming a modern epidemic, especially in Asia.
So what is it? PCOS is a common endocrine disorder that affects people with ovaries, with 20-25% womxn in India and around 1 in 10 womxn worldwide affected by it.

What corporate diversity stats don’t tell you 🤔
[2/10] Let’s assume Company X releases its #diversityandInclusion stats. These will often be in the form of two pie charts: one for race and one for gender. You can clearly see the racial and gender breakdown of the entire company. But here’s what’s missing:
[3/10] #Intersectional Diversity: Identities don’t exist in silos - for these statistics to make sense, we have to see gender and race together, not on two separate diagrams. There is no information on the percentage of women of color at Company X

"All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights"

We call on states, regions, cities across Europe to adopt national action plans against #racism that address structural racism and have an #intersectional & human rights based approach Image
@UNHumanRights @ECRI_CoE @JuliePascoet @AmnestyEU @HRW_Brussels @CIJBerlin @EURightsAgency @helenadalli @ARDIEuroParl @CommissionerHR 1/ National Action Plans Against Racism are governments’ @UN commitment. Some EU countries have taken initial steps but they are not comprehensive or not fully implemented. Yet we know racism is gaining ground.
@UNHumanRights @ECRI_CoE @JuliePascoet @AmnestyEU @HRW_Brussels @CIJBerlin @EURightsAgency @helenadalli @ARDIEuroParl @CommissionerHR @UN 2/ National Action Plans Against Racism can be a unique tool which puts racialised people and their experiences at the centre of social justice and equality policies.

Our report gives key indicators of success when designing such a plan: enar-eu.org/National-Actio… Image

I hope my students are in the house! Someone just asked about #disability & the @MeTooMVMT. @TaranaBurke spoke about the need to have those with lived experiences LEAD on these issues while also acknowledging that we all need to do the work to learn about & support each other.
She emphasized that we cannot work in our oppression silos. The #MeToo movement MUST be #intersectional. We need each other, ALL OF US, to be in this for change to happen.
Oooh and the next question she handles queerness & sex ed too. I am social justice stanning like none other. What a model of leadership!!!
