Here's a little story about a hero named Marty who stopped by the side of the road this morning as I was wondering aimlessly about picking up sticks and hand sawing what little a could of our disastrous front yard. (We lost a two giant trees, a hackberry and a box elder) 1/ Image
I was in a pretty foul mood because I got up at 4:30 AM or so and had a small confrontation with some guys from Midamerican. Then a big old box truck from the Johnson County Emergency management team drove by and asked if I needed any water or ice. 2/
I asked them where the hell they had been when we needed that stuff on Tuesday and walked away from them. (I am sort of an asshole if you haven't noticed.) Then a young man in a bronco pulled up and asked if I needed any help. 3/

The filing period has now opened for #IowaCity and #UniversityHeights city office candidates for the 11/5 City & School Election! Affidavits of Candidacy and Nomination Petitions can be filed at the Auditor's Office from 7:45-5:30 Monday-Friday. Deadline 5PM on 8/29. Image
Signature Requirements
Iowa City:
Iowa City City Council, At-Large: 128
Iowa City City Council, Districts A & C: 131 (signatures can be from any eligible elector of Iowa City)
University Heights:
Mayor & City Council: 10

If necessary, a city primary election will be held on October 8, 2019. Primary is required if more than twice as many candidates file as there are seats available for an office.

Today we are highlighting Chris, First Deputy in the Johnson County Auditor’s Office. Image
Chris oversees #JohnsonCounty’s payroll and accounting functions, including processing biweekly payroll for the 1,000+ County employees, paying bills, and maintaining records of spending and receipts for the County’s $125 million budget!
His favorite part of working for the Auditor’s Office is the range of duties the office holds, from accounting to elections, real estate, and minutes, which always keep the job interesting.
