@EuropeanPowell It was #IoWBobSeely that asked the questions about Chandler, but he wasn’t alone: more detail here, including Chandler’s Malta passport; , & a link to Trump I hadn’t seen before in thread, too.
@EuropeanPowell And here he is in Commons , bemoaning 1) the lack of investment in #IsleofWight

We’ve reached an understanding with Gov’t re. #planning & we’re discussing with colleagues.

We need a community-led, #green & regenerative system.

Those who’ve campaigned against bad development have too often been smeared as being #NIMBYs. In my book, they're local patriots. 🇬🇧

We also know #community groups, on the #IsleofWight and across the #UK, have despaired at top-down targets.

We (Theresa Villiers & I) agree. So, we:
a) built an alliance of Tory MPs
b) put down amendments
c) negotiated intensively with @michaelgove, @luhc & others to evolve language & ideas in the flagship Levelling Up and Regeneration Bill (#LURB).

We’ve agreed the following:

I just can't believe we're halfway through the year already. I haven't done much at #TetZoo - just no chance - but here's a quick thread of personal highlights of 2022 so far... ImageImageImageImage
First off, I enjoyed putting together my lookback at the 2001 #DorlingKindersley Encyclopedia of #Dinosaurs & Prehistoric Life, a book I co-authored and helped put together during my formative PhD-focused years…
The recycled article on Kogia - the dwarf and pygmy sperm whales - was fun to reassemble...… #mammals #marinemammals #cetaceans #whales

It’s #HillfortsWednesday and we wonder if the Iron Age univallate Trundle has ever looked more gorgeous than in this incredible pic by @DavidRAbram here, looking N towards the mist swathed #WestSussex Weald 🤩

For more of David’s stunning photos see:
The Iron Age ramparts of the Trundle #WestSussex partially enclose the spiral circuit of an earlier causewayed enclosure, the remains of which can be seen in this epic photo by @DavidRAbram

For more of David’s stunning photos see:

The distinctive imprint of a Neolithic causewayed enclosure is evident within the polygonal circuit of the Iron Age Trundle #WestSussex as slight earthworks and as dark lines to the SW in this early air photo from the 1930s in @SAS_Library @sussex_society

#IsleofWight - a covid history.

A lesson in how an isolated community can be utilised, promoted, cast aside - and now left asking for possible military support to evacuate patients via chinook. 😮
A thread /???…
Reminder that possible military support for our 'resilience planning' came all the way back in April.
For overners, the #IsleofWight has a population of 140,000 people and approx 30% are aged 65+.
Our virus levels were low in first lockdown. But we knew we were vulnerable. 2/
It got to May 2020 and the #IsleofWight was entered into trialling an App with noble ambitions to monitor our social interactions and notify us to #StayHome . Matt Hancock told Islanders that we were Pioneers & Leading the Way. Thousands pressured to download. TV News visited 3/

1/5 Around 3,500 to 4,000 #IsleofWight residents have already received their first vaccination. It is hoped that by the end of next week this will rise to nearer 10,000. This is great news but we to do more and fast @MattHancock
2/5 Each #IOW vaccination site has received 975 doses of the Pfizer vaccine so far. Very soon they will all receive another 975 doses plus 400 doses of the Oxford vaccine and 75 doses of Pfizer for care homes. After that only the Oxford vaccine will be administered here.
3/5 A large vaccination site - at the Riverside Centre - should be ready to deliver 500 vaccinations a day by the middle of the month but may not get the vaccine until 25 January.

1/5 I’ve written to @MattHancock asking for the #IsleofWight to be treated as a priority area to speed up the #Covid19 vaccination process. It is a race against time to get the most vulnerable vaccinated. #iwnews #IOW
2/5 The @IWPublicHealth team is doing a great job at getting the vaccine to those who need it, but I want the Government to do more.
3/5 We have a slighter older population on the #IOW so we are more vulnerable than some other areas, and mainland hospitals are already under pressure.

With @councillordave1 (@iwight), I have submitted a detailed response about cross-Solent connectivity to a major, independent review of transport infrastructure.

We've highlighted the “uniquely disadvantageous” position the #IsleofWight faces, compared to other UK islands.

As we outline in our submission, the intervention we secured for the pandemic (… &…) was a "watershed moment".

We should not return to the "old normal" of our connectivity being entirely at the discretion of private companies.

Our concern relates to the structure of cross-Solent connectivity.

We know the local management of the operators (@wightlinkferry, @RedFunnelFerry & @HovertravelLtd) are focused on serving the Island's needs as best they can, and we thank them - esp. during the pandemic.

Our new #IsleofWight #theropod #dinosaurs - Vectaerovenator (not as scary as it looks: 'vect-air-oh-ven-a-tor') from the Greensand of #Shanklin - was published yesterday in an #OA paper, available here:… Brief thread on this research...
This dinosaur - so far known from four extremely unusual, anatomically interesting vertebrae (two of them shown here) - was discovered by three different collectors, our work on describing them was led by University of Southampton PhD student @palaeoguy12 ... #FossilFriday Image
It was obvious from the start that this was (1) a theropod (or predatory dinosaur), (2) a new species and genus, and (3) interesting in being highly pneumatic (that is, it has loads of air-filled cavities and openings: you can see those features in these photos)... #dinosaurs Image

To Freshwater, probably the only place in the world which combined dinosaur footprints with a memorial to Tennyson. The poet’s nightmarish vision of “Dragons of the prime,
That tare each other in their slime” provides In Memoriam with one of its greatest passages. #IsleOfWight

1/12. Welcome to the #SolentHarbours virtual #LowTideTrail around #FortonLake. This creek has an amazing number of vessels (around 30) from barges and lifeboats, to fishing vessels and military craft.

We hope you will enjoy #archaeology from home during the COVID crisis.
2/12. Forton Lake is actually a tidal creek, meaning that the water comes and goes each day. It’s fed by sea water coming in from #PortsmouthHarbour. As the tide goes out, the skeletons of abandoned vessels are revealed in the mud. Forton Lake is about 1km in length and 150m wide
3/12. The collection spans over 100 years with boats dating from the 1800’s through to the 1960’s. There are 3 wooden barges, 2 ferries, 2 lifeboats, 3 fishing vessels, 9 military vessels & 4 unclassified vessels.
