An’ just like that it’s Lo-Fi Lush Hour No. 76: Calci di Rigore. Overtime is over, we’re all bent over panting, trembling hands on trembling knees an’ no breath to be caught, an’ now we’ve gotta kick th’ ball past th’ poor bloody goalie more times than th’ other guys. Sheesh.
Today’s Toast: Wine and Bitters, just like George Washington served Sir Guy Carleton back in 1783, when he was negotiating how to get the damn Brits outta NYC, what with them having lost the war the hard way. But first—you may recall the drill—wash your hands.
So. Wine and Bitters. Turns out to be a very stretchy sort of term. It can be wine—the General woulda prolly served Madeira, like these—and bitters; he woulda used Stoughton’s, like these that I had made up for an event way back in th’ Before Time.

Experiencing "election stress disorder?" You may not be alone! Consider these tips from UMBC's @iganson:

1. Be aware that this Election Night may not resemble those you saw in the past. Returns will come in asymmetrically over time, meaning a winner may not be known... (1/8)
... until days after Nov. 3.

States like PA have many counties that will experience delayed mail ballot counts, while states like NC and FL will report mail ballots quickly. It's complicated! Be patient!

Of course, a clear E-Night winner is also possible!

(2/8)
2. Double down on your self-care! Practice your favorite hobbies, read a book, & get some exercise. Remember that we won't know anything until after 7pm ET, and even then, returns will come in over hours. Don't spend the day glued to coverage... get some fresh air instead!

Why I voted, a thread:

In 2008, I woke up to the first black president after a nearly fatal overdose landed me in the hospital.

In 2012, I was still focusing on learning to live again after being only a year or so sober.

In 2016, I was angry at my choices.

In 2020, #IVoted
Now let me explain why any of this matters.

It doesn’t matter because I think America is my birthright and the president is my salvation. I don’t.

It doesn’t matter because my vote can change the nation. It won’t.

It matters because my vote represents something: I care.
In 2008, I cared about myself, my pain, and my trauma.

In 2012, I cared about myself, my pain, my recovery.

In 2016, I cared about myself, my pain, and my disappointment.

In 2020, I cared about you. I cared that my Christian witness would manifest in my civic engagement.

Good morning and welcome to the final week of #EarlyVoting! Voting Centers are open until 7 p.m. today, but there are changes ahead! Rather than our usual GIF post, this is your thread for voting this week, whether you’re a seasoned pro or a voting newcomer. #HarrisVotes
Note the change in hours this week:
- Today and Friday are 7 a.m.-7 p.m.
- Tuesday-Thursday are 7 a.m.-10 p.m. at ALL locations.
- Also on Thursday, EIGHT locations will open at 7 a.m. and won’t close until 7 p.m. Friday. #HarrisVotes
We’re calling this 24-Hour Voting, though, yes, it is technically 36 straight hours of voting at these eight locations. The point is that these locations will be open overnight to serve shift workers. #HarrisVotes

Typical income taxes:

Teachers paid $7239
Firefighters paid $5283
Nurses paid $10,216

...and Donald Trump paid $750.

That is unfair by any measure.

I have an idea. So many of us plan to #VoteEarly, which is crucial this year. But it also means we don't get that awesome #IVoted sticker.

Why don't we add #IVoted to our Twitter name once we do vote? Show your pride & inspire others to do the same. RT if you like the idea.
Just so you know, research has demonstrated that showing off your #IVoted sticker actually has a positive effect on turnout.

Ok, it's Saturday night and I was feeling creative. Created my first Twibbon. That way people can add it to their profile pic OR just add it to their profile name. twibbon.com/support/i-vote…

President* Trump’s attacks on our U.S. Postal Service are deliberate decisions to hurt our veterans and to hurt our seniors who depend on mail for medications and checks. VOTE EARLY. @votevets #TrumpYouLose

Every journalist should ask President* Trump @svdate’s question:

“After three and a half years, do you regret all the lying you've done to the American people?"

Does he have any regrets AT ALL?

Sure, "polls aren't votes", but 15 pts down means Trump's (ym"sh) vulnerable, dries up fundraising, allows GOP electeds to contradict him publicly, allows reporters to treat him normally & not as the magician of 2016 who commands a cult of violent kooks.
To combat the complacency that the polling imbalance could bring, I suggest telling fellow anti-Trumpites that no matter how much DJT is down in November, when you vote, it will feel as good as punching him in the face with all of your strength

Army of frog friends and I marched in hoplite phalanx into Kentucky voting booths bearing bronze armor and shields. We left spears outside. Wouldn't fit through doors.

After vote, comes bus full of fake voters. We scare them with our mere presence as we form ranks.

Old and crippled flee bus. We take bus, and young women left in bus entranced by our might. We then attak liquor store, take all bourbon.

Currently throwing victory feast at local greek restaurant. Delicious lamb gyros. Flesh of innocent lambs only thing to sate warrior spirit.
In all seriousness though, my voting place is in DEEEEEEEP blue Kentucky district in Lexington.

2016 and 2018, at the time I went (7:15ish in the morning) the line was out the door with people voting before they went to work.

Today? EMPTY.

I think @GovMattBevin has this.

Okay, so a quick thread on "do you have a plan to vote?"
If you've done any phonebanking or door-knocking for GOTV in the last few years, you know that "Do you have a plan to vote?" is an essential—maybe the essential—question you're supposed to ask. That's because it works.
A lot of people intend to vote, but don't get around to it. A meeting runs late, or an errand runs long, or they forget until after they're home and changed into a tee shirt and pyjama pants. It happens. Stuff happens.
