BREAKING: I am at Omaha City Hall. An announcement in the #JamesScurlock case from last May is scheduled in the next fifteen minutes. The grand jury has been deliberating for a week. 
No word yet from officials. Reporters waiting on announcement. Deputies and police officers are surrounding the legislative chamber. Outside of city hall is still pretty calm too

Today we #ShutDownSTEM & #ShutDownAcademia. I'm going to spend most of today educating myself about the lived experiences of black people and listening to as much black music and comedy as I can, and I'm going to share it with all 301 of my twitter followers.

Capt. Mark Matuza of @OmahaPolice offers some words of support for the Scurlock family and says they’ll be here only if needed. He said he expects a peaceful protest and he spoke with the family to offer support.
Correction: This is a prayer vigil, not a protest.

One organizer of the Memorial protest today is @Westside66 rising junior Elise Smith, 16, pictured, middle. She says she wanted to organize a protest that addressed her parents’ safety concerns and offered a chance to peacefully talk about issues of inequality, loss and change.
