What good is "we were tough on China!" policy when Pottinger watched Trump actively erode American democracy?! What good is humble bragging about your own China hawkishness when you sat by and watched our president use the same authoritarian playbook you claim to fight against?!
Genuinely I do not understand the cognitive dissonance with experts in our circles who celebrate Trump's China/Taiwan foreign policy for making America safer from autocrats while at the same time ignoring how Trump himself used authoritarian means to make the US less democratic.

Chairman Bennie Thompson: “We settle our differences at the ballot box. When you’re on the losing side, you don’t have to be happy about it. You can protest. You can organize. You can try to make sure you have a better result next time. But you cannot turn violent.”
Thompson states that Trump knew he had lost the 2020 election, and yet, he refused to acknowledge that or concede defeat. Instead, “He seized on the anger of his supporters, and when they approached the line, he didn't wave them off, he urged them on.”

Chairman Bennie Thompson is recapping what the committee laid out during the 1st hearing last week. Trump tried to overturn the 2020 election. The bedrock of democracy is the votes of the people; Trump didn’t have the votes; he lost in court; then lied to remain in office.
Liz Cheney is now describing how Trump lost in court. She says she will show that Trump lost the election; knew he had lost; & that there was no evidence to support his claims of fraud. She says Trump’s closest campaign advisors urged him not to declare victory on election night.
The #January6thCommitteeHearings started on 6/9/22 evening with witness testimony & video footage surrounding the riot on the Capitol on #J6. The televised hearing is the 1st in a series that is expected to last through July.
