2/ Let's examine that explanation. Hawk-Eye technology provides an indication of a a players point on contact with the ball. Not what position they are in. That's down to the VAR, and is why we have cameras. From the EPL guidelines "Hawk-Eye can also use any broadcast camera...
3/ ...to identify the point of contact with the ball by the attacker, and synchronises all cameras for this purpose." Also "Hawk-Eye calibrates multiple cameras to give many options when showing an offside decision in the event that a body part is covered in one camera."
