DDS are at it again with their "pumunta kayo sa Mindanao" script to support the passage of the Terror Law; however, if they bothered to watch the livestream of its third reading and read the explanation of votes, admin and opposition Mindanaoan lawmakers voted to #JunkTerrorBill.

History has taught us over and over that repressive regimes can and will abuse any power they can get, even to the point of using it against persons who are merely exercising their legitimate rights and freedoms that are the very essence of democracy:
the freedoms of speech, of expression, or of the press, or the right of the people to peaceably assemble and petition the government for redress of grievances.

Do you remember the kid who, while playing with his friends in their Tondo neighborhood, was shot dead by a police officer out of nowhere?
And do you remember the police officer's excuse? It was an accident he said, that while patrolling the area he tripped and accidentally fired his gun.
The kid's name was Aldrin Pineda. He was 13 years old.

"May tao dito," said a voice from behind the bookshelf after the team of Commission on Human Rights (CHR) knocked on the walls of the Drug Enforcement Unit office of Manila Police Station 1, Tondo, Manila during a surprise jail visit on April 27, 2017.
Behind the bookshelf, a dozen men and women were found crammed inside a hidden lock-up cell—only a meter wide and 5 meters in length. Many of the detainees claimed that they have been inside the cell for almost a week without formal charges.
Detainees also claimed extortion by the police in exchange for their release. One of them also showed bruises from being tortured.

Holding the stance of #JunkTerrorBill DOES NOT EQUATE to being pro-terrorism. Making the stand of #JunkTerrorBill does NOT equate to supporting violence or terrorists. Nor does it imply that we ignore or condone the damage, hurt and conflict that exists...
...in the Philippines and affects so many of our countrymen because of terrorism.
Rather, #JunkTerrorBill is a call to #ReviseTerrorBill (because it can be...and should be better) if the need is indeed urgent during this time.
The anti-terrorism bill is essential to protect the country and its people, but we cannot pass a bill that is susceptible to potential abuse of power and human rights violations.

In an earlier dispatch I issued when the Senate passed on 3rd reading the anti-terror bill in February, I vigorously stated that, had I been allowed to vote, I would have definitely voted against it. I pointed out that:

THE SINISTER SPECTER OF STATE TERRORISM

We fear that the Anti-Terror Bill will endanger the lives of scientists and engineers who assist marginalized communities by delivering services that the government simply refuses to provide. (1/6)
We remember the case of botanist Leonard Co who, together with Julius Borromeo and Sofronio Cortez, was brutally murdered by the military in Kananga, Leyte in 2010 on suspicions of being New People’s Army rebels. (2/6)
Meanwhile, AGHAM member and physicist Kim Gargar, who was conducting a research mission for typhoon Pablo rehabilitation efforts when he was wrongfully arrested and presented as an “NPA rebel,” was incarcerated for 10 months before being released on bail. (3/6)

Ang pinakanapansin ko talaga sa bill, it’s lax when it comes to the accountability of authorities, that they can almost do whatever they want that steps on the rights and freedom of the suspected ‘terrorist’.
Like what I said, guilty ka agad & you have to prove yourself innocent pero bago ‘yon, stripped off na yung rights mo.
For your readings. This is the easiest summary that I found, kasi may comparison ang old and new. #JunkTerrorBill ImageImageImage

Ito ‘yung nakakatakot. Ito ‘yung dapat na URGENT. Ito ‘yung dapat na pagtuunan ng gobyerno. Ang #COVID19, hindi ang #AntiTerrorBill. #JUNKTERRORBILLNOW

Mayroon akong breaking news, happened from our branch sa SM kahapon. Sa pagbukas namin, test + test result sa lahat ng empleyado is a must. Provided ng company.
Sa pagpasok namin, meron kaming PPE like face shield etc. Thanks sa company namin. So ‘yung branch namin sa SM__, nagbukas na. Syempre na-test + naka-PPE sila.

Poverty is our blackness. If the experience of blackness can be translated into terms that Filipinos can understand, it is the experience of poverty. The Filipino experience of poverty is the lifelong and intergenerational experience of disempowerment, subjugation, (1/10)
disenfranchisement, and the inability to determine your own personal destiny.
As a society, we have fully committed ourselves—consciously or subconsciously—to the perpetuation of a system that continuously subjugates the poor and takes power away from them, (2/10)
only to hand it back to them in the form of dole outs and maintain this relationship of toxic dependency.
Why? What for? Because we are greedy. Gahaman tayo. (3/10)

The Anti-Terrorism Bill Erodes Human Rights, Institutionalizes Impunity
01 June 2020
#JunkTerrorBil ImageImageImageImage
The bill, should it become law, will only serve to worsen the climate of impunity that has made the Philippines fertile ground for extra-judicial killings, illegal arrests, and crackdowns against activists and progressive organizations and even ordinary citizens. #JunkTerrorBill
As such, there is an urgent need to stop the passage of this bill at the earliest opportunity. The dangers it poses are incalculable, and the risks are too great for people to turn a blind eye under the misguided assumption that their own freedoms would not be affected.
