As a co-founder of Tacoma Action Collective, Jamika is a community organizer. Not a career politician. Last year we watched elected and appointed city officials fail the family of Manuel Ellis and the community at large.
As a collective and as a community WE stood with the family and WE got results. Although Manny should still be here, the independent investigation and the charging of officers are a small step towards justice.
Last year we decided it was important for us to get involved in political education as a way to empower and inform our community on the issues and people on our ballots.
Manuel Ellis was killed in Tacoma, WA on March 3rd 2020. Today Is July 27th. On June 2nd it was clear that this case was being both covered up and neglected. (A thread) 
The four officers who killed Manuel Ellis were placed on leave, and were allowed to return to work, even though an investigation hadn't been completed. They still haven't been fired.
The Tacoma City Manager has the power to fire them, and won't. With the exception of Mayor Woodards, Deputy Mayor Keith Blocker, and Council Member Catherine Ushka, the Council has been silent. They haven't put forward a motion to fire the officers.
The investigation is being conducted by WA State Patrol, but we still have questions. And demands. (A thread).
Provisions of I940 were CLEARLY violated. What are the consequences for breaking this law?
Pierce County Sheriff's department was on the scene and assisted in the death of Manuel Ellis. Why were they allowed to investigate?
